We opened up the kitchen to the entry and stairwell by removing the wall between the kitchen and the hall, moving the closets out of the hall, and opening up the staircase to the lower level with a half wall, which created a more open floor plan. We further expanded the space visually by adding a wall of sliding glass doors to the porch at one end of the kitchen, which flooded the room with natural light and pulled the outdoors inside. A beautiful handcrafted provenance by piqu Kitchen with bespoke detailing that our skilled carpenters brought to life in our workshop in Orpington. The solid framed oak cabinets have been left in their natural state and finished simply with oil to create a warm and inviting kitchen space. The decorative panels on the feature kitchen island have been painted in Pleat from the Little Greene Paint Company. Dekton Rem work surfaces and a full height splashback coupled with open shelving and brass accent features complete this spacious and welcoming Kitchen.

This high end custom home was a designer's dream canvas. Throughout the spacious, light filled residence, our walnut Poliform cabinetry echoes the clean lines of the architecture and brings warm definition. The upper level kitchen was designed with two islands, a wine bar, and a discreet pantry revealing a functional back up zone and smart office area. This comprehensive project also included a lower level entertainer's kitchen, bathrooms, offices, and more; all in a cohesive palette of walnut, matte white lacquer, white quartz and stainless. THE SETUP Senior Designer Diana Burton’s client loved her sixties-era home – it just needed some work. The cozy galley kitchen was narrow and mostly closed off from the family room. A pass-through window served as a limited pipeline for treats and chatter. The appliances were failing, too. It was simply time for an overhaul. Design Objectives: Remove load bearing wall and open kitchen to the family room Omit large unused fireplace in family room Increase work surfaces and overall storage solutions Dedicated small countertop appliance storage Seating for 3 or 4 at island Add pantry storage Offer solution for lack of mudroom Upgrade all appliances THE REMODEL Design Challenges: Finding a location to hide structural support for new beam Reworking awkward configuration of existing walls Adding a walk-in pantry Creating mudroom storage Allowing room for large sectional in family room Design Solutions: Add a discreet column by the fridge to hide essential support Flush out wall by bath to be even with the range wall, where the new walk in pantry exists Use void space behind new wall for large appliance garage Create combination walk in pantry/mudroom by adding bench with shoe storage and hooks Maintain island depth for comfortable seating without infringing on space for the sectional THE RENEWED SPACE This cramped, dated kitchen has a new lease on life! Opening it to the family room dramatically transformed the space.
