We carried the same Dekton from the island design onto the wet bar and the bar backsplash. The wet bar has matte black cabinets with panel ready appliances and an under-mounted bar sink. The bar shelves are made of real brass posts with glass shelves.

Designer Sarah Robertson of Studio Dearborn helped a neighbor and friend to update a “builder grade” kitchen into a personal, family space that feels luxurious and inviting. The homeowner wanted to solve a number of storage and flow problems in the kitchen, including a wasted area dedicated to a desk, too-little pantry storage, and her wish for a kitchen bar. The all white builder kitchen lacked character, and the client wanted to inject color, texture and personality into the kitchen while keeping it classic.

To prepare the wall prior to installation of the custom shelving, we laminated it with a sheet of metal. This provided a beautiful backdrop and the high-end look the clients were hoping for. The shelving was installed with the purpose of displaying our client’s impressive Bourbon collection. LED backlights spotlight the displays, with tall, glass-front cabinets on each side for glassware storage. If you prefer a more grandiose option, or all the amenities of a real bar, you can’t go past a built-in home bar.

What home bar functionalities do you want to include?

Decide how you will use the bar and whether you will need sinks, storage and refrigeration. Including a sink in your home bar design is a practical addition if you choose a location far from your kitchen. If you’re a wine connoisseur, you may want to include additional wine storage, whereas a mini bar fridge within the kitchen may need no extra storage at all. What bar furniture will you need?
