Paul Grdina- http://paulgrdinaphoto.photoshelter.com/ What started out as a kitchen reno grew into a main floor renovation very quickly. The living room at the front of this house was relatively unused as it was awkwardly accessed near the front door away from the kitchen/living area. To solve this we opened up the walls creating a large staircase to the now connected living room. Laundry moved downstairs just off the garage and the family room was also given an update. The kitchen, the start of this whole endeavour was beautifully redone with a substantially larger island with seating. Exterior door and windows in the back were moved and made large which allows for more light, and in this case a large kitchen perimeter for this family that loves to entertain.

This 1972 NW Contemporary home had great potential from the start with interesting architecture and West Hills Portland location with mature landscaping. The kitchen and powder bath lacked style and needed serious updating. From the cramped layout and closed off feel in the kitchen to heavy texture and original 1970’s décor in the Powder bath, it was time for a change. The main wall between the kitchen and Family room was removed and the kitchen entry was widened which made the kitchen feel more integrated and brighter. All existing hardwoods and dark 70’s brick in the Entry were replaced with 4” natural white oak hardwoods, which further connected and updated the kitchen and adjacent rooms. The new kitchen layout gave way to a large island and more useful storage and a better flow. The “Sea Serpent” blue on the island is complemented with the stained Alder and white for a fresh element. Open cubbies in Alder cubbies and white Kanso mosaic tile from Ann Sacks grouted in black all add interest to this warm, clean-lined Scandinavian vibe for this young family.

Designed in conjunction with Vinyet Architecture for homeowners who love the outdoors, this custom home flows smoothly from inside to outside with large doors that extends the living area out to a covered porch, hugging an oak tree. It also has a front porch and a covered path leading from the garage to the mud room and side entry. The two car garage features unique designs made to look more like a historic carriage home. The garage is directly linked to the master bedroom and bonus room. The interior has many high end details and features walnut flooring, built-in shelving units and an open cottage style kitchen dressed in ship lap siding and luxury appliances. We worked with Krystine Edwards Design on the interiors and incorporated products from Ferguson, Victoria + Albert, Landrum Tables, Circa Lighting

The homeowners wanted to turn this rustic kitchen, which lacked functional cabinet storage space, into a brighter more fun kitchen with a dual tap Perlick keg refrigerator. For the keg, we removed existing cabinets and later retrofitted the doors on the Perlick keg refrigerator. We also added two Hubbardton Forge pendants over the bar and used light travertine and mulit colored Hirsch glass for the backsplash, which added texture and color to complement the various bottle colors they stored. We installed taller, light maple cabinets with glass panels to give the feeling of a larger space. To brighten it up, we added layers of LED lighting inside and under the cabinets as well as under the countertop with bar seating. For a little fun we even added a multi-color, multi-function LED toe kick, to lighten up the darker cabinets. Each small detail made a big impact.
