With enormous rectangular beams and round log posts, the Spanish Peaks House is a spectacular study in contrasts. Even the exterior—with horizontal log slab siding and vertical wood paneling—mixes textures and styles beautifully. An outdoor rock fireplace, built-in stone grill and ample seating enable the owners to make the most of the mountain-top setting. Inside, the owners relied on Blue Ribbon Builders to capture the natural feel of the home’s surroundings. A massive boulder makes up the hearth in the great room, and provides ideal fireside seating. A custom-made stone replica of Lone Peak is the backsplash in a distinctive powder room; and a giant slab of granite adds the finishing touch to the home’s enviable wood, tile and granite kitchen. The homeowner of this ranch style home in Orange Park Acres wanted the Kitchen Breakfast Nook to become a large informal Dining Room that was an extension of the new Great Room. A new painted limestone effect on the used brick fireplace sets the tone for a lighter, more open and airy space. Using a bench for part of the seating helps to eliminate crowding and give a place for the grandkids to sit that can handle sticky hands. Custom designed dining chairs in a heavy duty velvet add to the luxurious feeling of the room and can be used in the adjacent Great Room for additional seating. A heavy dark iron chandelier was replaced with the lovely fixture that was hanging in another room; it's pale tones perfect for the new scheme. The window seat cushions were updated in a serviceable ostrich print taupe vinyl enhanced by rich cut velvet brocade and metallic woven pillows, making it a perfect place to sit and enjoy the outdoors. The space began as a 2-car garage. After months of renovation, it is now a gourmet kitchen. The focal point is the hood made from a reclaimed warehouse beam and finished with a copper top and placed on stone and glass mosaic tile. The island is large enough to accomadate seating and provide plenty of room for prepping. Adjoining the space is a large butlers pantry and bar and a home office space. Tall cabinetry flank the cooking wall and provide easy access storage to pots and pans as well as small appliance storage. Brief: The main concerns for our client were to create a family friendly entertaining space with plenty of storage. They had a clear idea of colour scheme but needed help to plan and select the appropriate finish and style. Collection: Urban Style with white gloss and satin black handle-less units. Silestone white quartz worktop and grey quartz breakfast bar. Solution: Space was not an issue in this comfortably sized kitchen/dining room. Our designers worked with our client to give them a multi-functional space that is perfect for the serious cook, the entertainer and the family. LED lighting under the worktops, in the channel handles and under the breakfast bar add a sophisticated touch whilst softening the effect of the large kitchen island. Having a durable Silestone quartz breakfast bar means it will last for years to come - and means that the cook is never isolated from the party. Our client said: "We didn't need to go anywhere else, we went straight to Urban Myth"
