Designer: Astro Design Centre, Ottawa Canada Photos: JVL Photography The theme for this design was clean lines, symmetry and harmony. They played up the natural beauty surrounding the house, by enhancing the natural light and introducing new textures that would give the space a modern look. Being centred in a wooden lot, we chose to carry natural materials like walnut, marble and slate into the room. However, to add drama and contrast, the elements are juxtaposed with industrial lighting, square high-polished fixtures and a factory-style barn door.

Frosted pocket doors seductively invite you into this master bath retreat. Marble flooring meticulously cut into a herringbone pattern draws your eye to the stunning Victoria and Albert soaking tub. The window shades filter the natural light to produce a romantic quality to this spa-like oasis. This bathroom is teeny tiny, and we couldn't change the original footprint. But using quality materials and light finishes made it feel new and bright, and perfectly suited to the elegance of the house. Beveled white tile, lots of Carrara marble, polished nickel fixtures, and period sconces all played a role in this spectacular facelift.

An interesting combination of contemporary fixtures and traditional Damask metallic wall paper turn this small Powder Room into a unexpected surprise.
