The generous proportions of this Victorian Villa allowed us to create an expansive family home for our clients. We retained and enhanced the traditional features and proportions of the original house then modernised its jumble of rear extensions to create contemporary spaces connected to the garden.
A full basement was formed beneath the property to add luxurious health facilities; a tranquil spa, swimming pool, sauna, steam room and gym. The basement spaces are lit with daylight from generous traditional front light wells and crisp glass floor lights.
The neglected attic was converted and connected to the rest of the home to provide a private master suite with double bathroom, his and hers dressing rooms, lounge and bedroom.

Double story windows flood the exercise room with natural light which makes the space feel expansive and inviting. Keeping the flooring, walls and ceiling toned to each other makes the space feel more like an upscale spa than a typical gym environment. The client provided state of the art exercise equipment.

A clean, transitional home design. This home focuses on ample and open living spaces for the family, as well as impressive areas for hosting family and friends. The quality of materials chosen, combined with simple and understated lines throughout, creates a perfect canvas for this family’s life. Contrasting whites, blacks, and greys create a dramatic backdrop for an active and loving lifestyle.

Este espacio era muy poco apetecible porque era grande y frío. Decidimos diseñar un gran gimnasio con paredes paneladas en roble natural, sauna abierta por vidrios y una gran puerta corredera que queda oculta en la pared cuando se necesita.
This space was very unappetizing because it was big and cold. We decided to design a large gym with natural oak paneled walls, a glass-opened sauna and a large sliding door that is hidden in the wall when needed.

Expanding the narrow 30 square foot balcony on the upper level to a full floor allowed us to create a 300 square foot gym. We closed off the opening to the kitchen below. The floor framing is extra strong, specifically to carry the weight of the clients’ weights and exercise apparatus. We also used sound insulation to minimize sound transmission. We built walls at the top of the stairway to prevent sound transmission, but in order not to lose natural light transmission, we installed 3 glass openings that are fitted with LED lights. This allows light from the new sliding door to flow down to the lower floor. The entry door to the gym is a frosted glass pocket door. We replaced existing door/transom and two double-hung windows with an expansive, almost 16-foot, double sliding door, allowing for almost 8-foot opening to the outside. These larger doors allow in a lot of light and provide better access to the deck for entertaining. The cedar siding on the interior gym wall echoes the cedar deck fence.
