Independent Restaurant

A complete architectural and interior design service has transformed this once tired bistro and fulfilled the clients brief for a cool, modern classic, atmospheric interior to function as a café in the day time and an informal dining restaurant in the evening. A retro inspired colour palette suggests a relaxed atmosphere, metro tiles link with the retro theme and decorate the walls creating interest; adding texture and reflecting light. The existing oak flooring has been lovingly restored to retain its patina bringing warmth to the space. Bold statement pieces such as the upholstered banquette seating juxtaposes the Thonet inspired bistro chairs and locally sourced reclaimed oak table tops for an eclectic look. Hand painted joinery assists in zoning the restaurant and bar areas, while providing essential additional storage. On the terrace classic rattan carver chairs and low level decorative planters allow views through the folding glass doors and into the restaurant inviting customers in. A new lighting scheme has been used to create zones within the space; black enamel pendent lights paired with industrial iron window pane mirrors bounce light and reflections around the restaurant. Simple clear glass pendants with tied flexes define the banquette seating area where oversized antiqued glass mirrors and niches displaying local produce punctuate the tiled wall. Classic blub pendants run the length of a bespoke patisserie table screening views through the restaurant and drawing customers to the tempting patisserie display. Richard Downer- Photographer
