Kitchen uses Walnut with a brown finish for all of the exposed wood surfaces. Walnut used on the slab doors are cut from the same panel to give synchronized pattern that matches vertically. All painted cabinets are made from Alder. Unique detail to note for the kitchen is the single seamless top shelve pieces on the top of the cook top and side wall that extend 12 feet without any gaps. The waterfall edge granite counter top captures initial attention and is the bridge that bring together the Warm walnut kitchen with the white storage and integrated fridge. This kitchen in a Mid-century modern home features rift-cut white oak and matte white cabinets, white quartz countertops and a marble-life subway tile backsplash. The original hardwood floors were saved to keep existing character. The new finishes palette suits their personality and the mid-century details of their home. We eliminated a storage closet and a small hallway closet to inset a pantry and refrigerator on the far wall. This allowed the small breakfast table to remain. By relocating the refrigerator from next to the range, we allowed the range to be centered in the opening for more usable counter and cabinet space on both sides. A counter-depth range hood liner doesn’t break the line of the upper cabinets for a sleeker look. Large storage drawers include features like a peg system to hold pots in place and a shallow internal pull-out shelf to separate lids from food storage containers.

This transitional kitchen design is as elegant as it is functional. Built in 1999, this kitchen has remained nearly untouched. With the need for a more functional space and storage, our team was able to completely rethink this kitchen design within its original footprint. Here we addressed a load bearing wall, allowing for an expansion of usable space and opened up the living area to feel more warm and inviting. By far this kitchen’s most notable feature is the custom cabinetry which creates an efficient and effective use of space.

We were asked to help transform a cluttered, half-finished common area to an organized, multi-functional homework/play/lounge space for this family of six. They were so pleased with the desk setup for the kids, that we created a similar workspace for their office. In the midst of designing these living areas, they had a leak in their kitchen, so we jumped at the opportunity to give them a brand new one. This project was a true collaboration between owner and designer, as it was done completely remotely.

The owner's of this Mid-Century Modern home in north Seattle were interested in developing a master plan for remodeling the kitchen, family room, master closet, and deck as well as the downstairs basement for a library, den, and office space. Once they had a good idea of the overall plan, they set about to take on the priority project, the kitchen, family room and deck. Shown are the master plan images for the entire house and the finished photos of the work that was completed.

Designed for our Mount Kisco showroom by Danielle Florie, this kitchen features frameless cabinetry by North America Cabinets (or NAC), Bilotta’s most affordable cabinetry line. There is a mix of finishes: the perimeter and part of the island are in White Dove paint on their Princeton door; the remainder of the island is a flat panel cherry veneer in their “Night Shade” finish; the hutch is a Shaker door in Rivera Oak laminate with the exception of the door frame and countertop which are cherry veneer in their “Austin” finish. The perimeter countertop is Alleanza quartz in a polished finish, while the island is Asterix granite in a leather finish for more texture. There is also an integrated walnut block on the island. All appliances in this “live” kitchen (built-in double ovens, one steam and the other convection; microwave drawer; dishwasher; pro-cooktop; hood; and refrigerator) are all by Thermador. Hardware is from Altas Hardware in a brass finish which complements the light fixtures above the sink.

We designed custom cabinets to fit in the small space, for more attractive storage. A small bar sink completes the space. The coffee bar ties in with the adjoining kitchen via the matching backsplashes and countertops. French doors and a sparkling light fixture in the coffee bar add some glamour, making it feel like a special morning destination!

You don’t want to end up with a finished design, only for your significant other to question where the fridge is supposed to go. You also want to plan the layout of your cabinets. Maybe you’re planning for a pantry and can do with less storage space in your kitchen, so that your design can be one without upper or lower cabinets for a different look. A corner cabinet can be a smart storage solution if you want to keep the look clean and simple.

3. Decide on a Kitchen Style, But Don’t Forget Practicality

You want the style of your kitchen to reflect your personality and taste.
