This is a large kitchen, so I designed a refrigerator on the cook's side of the island and another on the bar side of the island so those eating could access drinks/ice, etc without disturbing the cook. It also allows more than one cook to work comfortably. The large breakfast area is open and sunny with lots of windows and doors. Photo credit Pamela Foster

To make better use of space for a large family, and entertaining, we took out a peninsula and added a huge island. The dark stain on the island and banquette help pull together the light maple on the existing perimeter cabinets and the knotty pine paneling in this original Craftsman home.
Custom Design & Construction
Two sisters inherited this home in Torrance, CA. and wanted to start the home’s remodel with a new kitchen. They are passionate cooks who enjoy taking the occasional class to sharpen their skills. They were looking for a chef’s kitchen focused on efficiency. Professional grade appliances were required for them to achieve this effect. The glass backsplash is a mosaic tile in black and white. The flooring is marble with an inlay border. The new homeowners wanted a butler’s pantry and built in Thermador espresso machine for their new space. The peninsula offers seating for guests as they cook. The project includes a 54 inch stainless steel vent hood complete with backsplash and shelving.

For this remodel, the owners wanted high-end custom cabinetry with lots of convenience. We worked with them to design this layout and custom made the cabinets from solid maple. The granite countertop accents the trip on the door and drawer fronts.

In addition to wanting a warm and welcoming updated kitchen, our clients had a unique request, they wanted a built in wall microwave separate from the wall convection oven and wall thermal oven and we modified the cabinet area to accommodate the stack. We also modified a space for the warming drawer. Photo credit to Sergio Garza.
