Kitchen Design

This vintage home was built in 1897 in Downers Grove. The homeowner is an avid chef and needed a better design work flow. She wanted to keep the same vintage feel in the kitchen as throughout the home. We added a work / dining island, new cabinetry and storage, upgraded the cooking equipment and widened and upgraded the windows for additional natural light. We added the archway into the dining room to repeat the original archway elsewhere in the home. This beautiful and inviting retreat compliments the adjacent rooms creating a total home environment for entertaining, relaxing and recharging. Soft off white painted cabinets are topped with Taj Mahal quartzite counter tops and finished with matte off white subway tiles. A custom marble insert was placed under the hood for a pop of color for the cook. Strong geometric patterns of the doors and drawers create a soothing and rhythmic pattern for the eye. Balance and harmony are achieved with symmetric design details and patterns. Soft brass accented pendants light up the peninsula and seating area. The open shelf section provides a colorful display of the client's beautiful collection of decorative glass and ceramics.

Our clients have lived in this suburban custom home for 25 years. It was built in the early 90s. They love the home and location. It’s their forever home. We were hired to reimagine the space, design, specify, and manage the project renovation and trades. We designed the entry, kitchen, and family room, and it took us eight weeks to complete the project. In this north country farmhouse, we have transformed what was a dreary kitchen into a bright and colourful space. As this is a period property, ceilings are undulating but the bespoke made cabinetry sits seamlessly, continuing close to the ceiling to maximise storage space. The cabinets are classic, plain fronted and hand painted createing a soft, tactile feel to the kitchen. The Aga is backed by a colourful ceramic tiles, its bright colour complementing the island. A traditional dresser was also created to house food and crockery, hidden behind bi-fold doors. Cabinetry in the adjacent utility/boot room complements the kitchen with Oak bench seat and shoe shelves hat and coat rail.
