Lakehouse Total Transformation
Lakehouse Total Transformation

These homeowners requested a complete makeover of their dated lake house with an open floor plan that allowed for entertaining while enjoying the beautiful views of the lake from the kitchen and family room. We proposed taking out a loft area over the kitchen to open the space. This required moving the location of the stairs to access the basement bedrooms and moving the laundry and guest bath to new locations, which created improved flow of traffic. Each bathroom received a complete facelift complete with the powder bath taking a more polished finish for the lone female of the house to enjoy. We also painted the ceiling on the main floor, while leaving the beams stained to modernize the space. The renovation surpassed the goals and vision of the homeowner and allowed for a view of the lake the homeowner stated she never even knew she had.

La disposition en L permet une vraie optimisation de l'espace. La table et sa banquette ont pu être installées sans que cela empiète sur le côté fonctionnel de la cuisine.

Besides the subtle details in the panels, cabinetry, mullion doors, and island ceiling, this modern white kitchen is more interesting through the combination of materials and colors. Like the addition of a dark mahogany stained island, shelves and drawer fronts, the stainless steel appliances and a copper hood. Plenty of details to keep you interested and engaged. A convergence of sleek contemporary style and organic elements culminate in this elevated esthetic. High gloss white contrasts with sustainable bamboo veneers, run horizontally, and stained a warm matte caramel color. The showpiece is the 3” bamboo framing around the tall units, engineered in strips that perfectly align with the breaks in the surrounding cabinetry. So as not to clutter the clean lines of the flat panel doors, the white cabinets open with touch latches, most of which have lift-up mechanisms. Base cabinets have integrated channel hardware in stainless steel, echoing the appliances. Storage abounds, with such conveniences as tray partitions, corner swing-out lazy susans, and assorted dividers and inserts for the profusion of large drawers. Pure white quartz countertops terminate in a waterfall end at the peninsula, where there’s room for three comfortable stools under the overhang. A unique feature is the execution of the cooktop: it’s set flush into the countertop, with a fascia of quartz below it; the cooktop’s knobs are set into that fascia. To assure a clean look throughout, the quartz is continued onto the backsplashes, punctuated by a sheet of stainless steel behind the rangetop and hood. Serenity and style in a hardworking space. In the home’s interior, leather-finish Cippolino marble paving was painstakingly end-matched to create the illusion of one continuous piece of stone traveling through the whole level, under a bathtub made from a single block of Cippolino marble, and transitioning into the master bath’s shower walls. On this same level the kitchen is outfitted with a 15 foot long book-matched Lapis Lazuli island countertop shaped at its perimeter with a “knife edge,” adjacent to a countertop and sink clad in book-matched Cippolino marble. Matched vein-cut travertine paving covers the floor and seamlessly continues through the living room and out onto the exterior sundeck, terminating at the swimming pool which is completely bordered by travertine coping containing slots for drainage that allow the top edge of the pool’s water to become perfectly aligned with the top edge of the adjacent travertine paving, thus creating a level surface from the kitchen to the infinity edge of the pool.

Mowlem & Co: Flourish Kitchen In this classically beautiful kitchen, hand-painted Shaker style doors are framed by quarter cockbeading and subtly detailed with brushed aluminium handles. An impressive 2.85m-long island unit takes centre stage, while nestled underneath a dramatic canopy a four-oven AGA is flanked by finely-crafted furniture that is perfectly suited to the grandeur of this detached Edwardian property. With striking pendant lighting overhead and sleek quartz worktops, balanced by warm accents of American Walnut and the glamour of antique mirror, this is a kitchen/living room designed for both cosy family life and stylish socialising. High windows form a sunlit backdrop for anything from cocktails to a family Sunday lunch, set into a glorious bay window area overlooking lush garden. A generous larder with pocket doors, walnut interiors and horse-shoe shaped shelves is the crowning glory of a range of carefully considered and customised storage. Furthermore, a separate boot room is discreetly located to one side and painted in a contrasting colour to the Shadow White of the main room, and from here there is also access to a well-equipped utility room.

For the kitchen backsplash, the designer chose the San Jose Quarter 6" x 6" tiles, from our Barcelona collection, in a repeating pattern. Using our San Jose 6"x6" quarter tiles together with our San Jose 3"x3" tiles behind the sink area, the designer really understood the allure of this hand-painted Spanish tile series. The project was completed in 2007 by Design Build, located in San Diego, CA.

This kitchen was very 1980s and the homeowners were ready for a change. As amateur chefs, they had a lot of requests and appliances to accommodate but we were up for the challenge. Taking the kitchen back down to the studs, we began to open up their kitchen while providing them plenty of storage to conceal their bulk storage and many small appliances. Replacing their existing refrigerator with a panel-ready column refrigerator and freezer, helped keep the sleek look of the cabinets without being disrupted by appliances. The vacuum sealer drawer is an integrated part as well, hidden by the matching cabinet drawer front. Even the beverage cooler has a door that matches the cabinetry of the island. The stainless, professional-grade gas range stands out amongst the white cabinets and its brass touches match the cabinet hardware, faucet, pot-filler, and veining through the quartzite. The show-stopper of this kitchen is this amazing book-matched quartzite with its deep blues and brass veining and this incredible sink that was created out of it as well, to continue the continuity of this kitchen. The enormous island is covered with the same stone but with the dark wood, it provides a dramatic flair. The mercury glass pendants, do not distract but complete the look.
