This family home is nestled in one of Brisbane’s affluent suburbs. Hamilton is situated on the banks of the Brisbane River. It is a well-known and popular spot for riverside dining and high end restaurants. But why would you want to eat out when you can prepare all your meals here at home? This family were doing a new build and wanted to replicate a traditional Queenslander look. This recently built kitchen has a perfect selection of Quartz based stone mixed with the timeless, refined elegance of Hampton’s style cabinetry. The warmer shades of Dulux White Polar on the shaker doors offer a crisp, breezy styling in this space. The herring bone floor tiles lift the overall mood of the entire kitchen area. The well placed island bench is perfect in sizing to have all meals prepared from early morning breakfasts to elegant dinner parties. All eyes will go straight to the focal point of the kitchen. The Island Bench. A space that can be shared with all your friends while you entertain. They are lured into the bright lights and beautiful aromas. It’s a place of enjoyment and relaxation where both the home owners and the invitees are gathered around. Entertaining is easy with the large gas upright cooker and French Door Ice Maker fridge. The amount of storage area in the island aids the chef allowing the bench top areas not to be too cluttered and offers a smooth flowing area in which to prepare foods. This is a fully functional kitchen which is enhanced by traditional pendant lighting but still allowing natural light to stream in through the windows creating an ambient airy feel.

The Corner Cabinet

Frank and Carolyn were looking to remodel their deck house kitchen in their little slice of heaven in Framingham. Carolyn wanted to freshen up the area with lighter cabinets, flooring, and paint. She loves nature and their home is situated on a beautifully, private, wooded lot. The kitchen which runs almost the entire back of the home overlooks the treetops. Carolyn envisioned a kitchen that blended with her deck home and looked like it belonged in her natural setting. The cabinets are KraftMaid Vantage Lyndale Evercore in Dove White paint and the counters Caesarstone Coastal Grey. Oh, the kitchen remodel, by far my most challenging project at #flipmagnolia and by far the one I am the proudest of. It’s true that small houses do come with small kitchens. However, the size of this kitchen was not really the problem here. As I stood in this old kitchen absolutely in awe, I just knew this was my biggest project yet. I was staring at rusted yellow cabinets, mixed countertops, a whimsical wallpaper border, and a big old washer right next to the stove. What? Click to see the before photos. Handle-less kitchen combining melamine wood finish doors, Schmidt Canyon, and micron doors in blue, Schmidt Nordic Blue. The handles are stainless steel strips just under the worktop functioning as grip handle, Schmidt Eolis range. The same is for the tall units, but in vertical, Schmidt Vertica range. To finish the look the quartz worktop in white brings a cooler feeling to the kitchen, as well as more lighting. Instead of splash-back the customer opted for an up-stand in the same material as the worktop and tiles in blue behind the hob. The appliances chosen include American Full Fridge Freezer with water dispenser, built in double oven and single oven, induction hob and wall extractor in stainless steel. The presence of stainless steel matches between appliances, hand grip handles and the under-mounted sink and tap. Also the kick-board or plinth is 10 cm high (allowing more storage space and maximisation of your kitchen storage) matches the handle in stainless steel. For lighting the customer chose ceiling spot lights and under wall unit lighting. To finish the look the customer went for white walls, and ceramic tiling for the floor. The ceramic tiling in a light brown with a touch of grey works as an intermediary between the kitchen and the wooden doors. In terms of cabinets and storage, the kitchen has two tall larder units with internal drawers by the fridge, storage above the fridge and ovens, drawers under the ovens and hob, as well as three extra set of drawers. The dishwasher unit is by the sink, and the bins are in the sink unit, Schmidt Kitchens Dorking offers different options for the sink unit and bins. The wall units are 780 mm high and 370 mm deep, they have grip handles and under lighting.

For starters, you want to find a balance between aesthetics and function. You may have heard of the ‘kitchen work triangle’, which refers to the space between your fridge, sink and stove. You want everything within easy reach when you’re working in the kitchen and look beautiful at the same time. It’s a good idea to take note of both when browsing our photo gallery.

2. Consider Your Space to Determine Your Kitchen Layout

Firstly, consider the space you have, and the limitations that come with it. Do you have a small kitchen and need to maximise your workspace and storage?
