Cooking essentials are all within reach for the serious chefs in this home! Faced with a cramped eat-in kitchen our job was to both maximize and open up the space. By relocating the refrigerator and surrounding it with pantry cabinets, we were able to create more counter space and allow space for two chefs. Warm stained-wood open corner shelving was installed to display the chefs’ favorite items and keep them right at an arm's reach. The breakfast table is now positioned at the window, giving diners a view of the beautiful backyard. The finishes (Executive Cabinetry - Putnam door style in Alabaster paint; Belgian Blue Satin quartz counters by Alleanza) blend seamlessly with the rest of the home.

In this after photo, a counter depth refrigerator is located where the range once was, with a full length pantry. The counter on the right is convenient to land food in and out of the refrigerator. All the lower cabinets are drawers. Designer Julia Kleyman specified hardware on the large drawers be mounted at the top to avoid unnecessary bending. The old phone was kept for convenience. The original door was cut in half and retrofitted to act like a gate to confine a dog from the rest of the house.

KITCHEN. When our client purchased this property, it had been in the previous owners family for 200 years. This meant that despite generous room sizes, the interior was very dated. One of the most dramatic changes was the removal of a half-height brick wall which originally divided the kitchen into two spaces. New parquet flooring was installed in the kitchen and the old, heavy wooden windows were also removed and replaced by crittall style black framed windows. The property was then redecorated throughout using dramatic wallpapers and strong colours to compliment the client's eclectic style.
