After living in their home for nearly 20 years, for their second renovation of this kitchen they decided to do it right--a small addition to the rear of the home and large windows allow views of the backyard and light to flow into this warm contemporary kitchen. Sarah Robertson of Studio Dearborn helped her client renovate their kitchen to capture the views and vibe they were after. Pale rift oak cabinetry is punctuated with grey/blue glass uppers, bringing color and reflective light into this welcoming space. A tiny mosaic from Artistic Tile picks up on the blue theme adding texture and pattern to the calming vibes of this space. Photos Adam Macchia. This contemporary kitchen was inspired by the owner wanting a crisp, clean euro-style line with no handles. The White Oak uppers and coffee nook area make for a warmer look than a simple all-white kitchen. Functional space, such as drawers under the sink, hidden garbage and the use of dish drawers were all important to the homeowner. She desired to have a "Hot" area with two ovens, a speed oven, and a traditional oven, with a large cooktop over the main oven. We built a slightly smaller island at a single height, rather than stacked as it was previously to give more walking around space. Eclectic Bungalow Kitchen Remodel

We removed a wall in this small Sugarhouse bungalow, allowing us to reconfigure the main floor living space. The client now has a more functional kitchen where the kitchen, dining, and living rooms all overlap for flexibility, function, and an open airy feel. Flexibility is key in these spaces. Chairs are easily moved around. The ottomans can be rearranged to be used as benches, footstools, or a coffee table. The dining bench can be used for extra seating in the living room when needed. Even the area rug is individual FLOR tiles that can be rearranged if needed for a different rug size.

For starters, you want to find a balance between aesthetics and function. You may have heard of the ‘kitchen work triangle’, which refers to the space between your fridge, sink and stove. You want everything within easy reach when you’re working in the kitchen and look beautiful at the same time. It’s a good idea to take note of both when browsing our photo gallery.
