A contemporary Spanish-style kitchen renovation with a U-shaped layout in Westlake Village. Historic bronze pendant lights over a giant center island create a warm and inviting space for conversation and entertaining. Talavera medallion accent tiles and a colonial pattern above the range add pops of color and texture to the white tile backsplash. Hexagon terracotta floor tiles introduce a warm dose of color to the unexpected blend of textures and hues. Jeld Wen picture windows with push-out casements bring in plenty of natural light. Wrought steel hardware lends a touch of farmhouse sensibility to the contemporary design of this kitchen. Photographer: Tom Clary

The new modern kitchen also incorporates a contrasting teak buffet at the dine-in eating area. Extending the buffet to the ceiling, using glass shelves and built in lighting accentuates the display of the owner’s art and craft collection. The addition of new LED recessed lighting provides a brighter and more energy efficient space. Under-cabinet lighting also enhances visibility at the marble counter top work surfaces. The entire back of the house accommodates a kitchen that pays homage to great European country kitchens. Kitchen countertops are Bianco Carrara honed marble, antique reclaimed terra cotta tile flooring, and a glazed hexagonal oxford gray backsplash. The perimeter countertops are 3cm Bianco Carrara honed marble with an ogee edge and the island features 5cm Bianco Carrara honed marble with a simpler flat polished edge. The 4” backsplash extends around the entire perimeter expect behind the stove which is a full height Bianco Carrara splash.

We transformed this kitchen from an outdated southwest style space to a classic Spanish style kitchen. The custom built in refrigerator and freezer was created by selecting various molding pieces and designing doors and side panels to replicate a Spanish antique. Designed by Distinctive Kitchens Seattle. For the Admiral Tudor kitchen, we wanted a rich, textured feel with exquisite detail and carefully considered construction. The custom walnut cabinetry plays beautifully with the Lacanche range in Armor, and the simple backsplash allows the calacatta marble countertop to take top billing The end result is one of the most unique, gorgeous and functional kitchens we've ever designed. We created the light shaft above the island, which allows light in through two new round windows. These openings used to be attic vents. The beams are reclaimed lumber. Lighting and pulls are from Rejuvenation.
