Designed by Bilotta’s Tom Vecchio with Samantha Drew Interiors, this traditional two-toned kitchen features Rutt Handcrafted Cabinetry in a warm mix of Benjamin Moore’s Cloud White paint and cherry with a stain. The expansive space is perfect for a large family that hosts a great deal of guests. The 15’ wide sink wall features a 36” wide farm house sink situated in front of a large window, offering plenty of light, and is flanked by a double pull-out trash and “knock-to-open” Miele dishwasher. At the opposite end of the room a banquette sits in front of another sunny window and comfortably seats eight people. In between the sink wall and banquette sits a 9’ long island which seats another four people and houses both a second dishwasher and a hidden charging station for phones and computers. The countertops on both the island and perimeter are polished Biano Rhino Marble and the backsplash is a handmade subway tile from Southampton Masonry. The flooring, also from Southampton Masonry, is a Silver Travertine – coupled with all of the other finishes the room gives off a serene, coastal feeling. The hardware, in a polished chrome finish, is from Cliffside; the sink and faucet from Rohl. The dining table, seating and decorative lighting is all from Samantha Drew Interiors in East Setauket, NY. The appliances, most of which are fully integrated with custom wood panels (including the 72” worth of refrigeration!), are by Viking, except for the custom metal hood. The window treatments, which are operated electronically for easy opening and closing, are also by Samantha Drew Interiors using Romo Fabrics. Architecture & Design by: Harmoni Designs, LLC. The dark wood island cabinetry provides a warm and rich contrast to the otherwise white and neutral colors of the kitchen. Everything in this design was coordinated with the owners down to the decorative lights above the island. The homeowner found the light and the exact size and spacing was coordinated with the architect. The subway tiles on the walls add warmth and interest to the beautiful kitchen as well, tying it all together. Photographer: Scott Pease, Pease Photography

If you search “Modern Farmhouse”, this kitchen should appear as the defining image of this beloved esthetic. But very few of this style’s renditions can claim to be actual working farms. Though badly neglected, the owners of this eastern Connecticut property wanted the renovations to retain their original character. Reclaimed wood beams add antique authenticity, while black framed windows lend an industrial air. Gorgeous ash hardwood floors contribute to the airy ambiance. Cabinetry is full-overlay with a modified beveled Shaker door; white for the perimeter, and soft cream with a strie’ glaze for the island. Gray grout on the period-correct subway tiles creates a modern graphic effect. For this space, an apron front sink was practically mandatory. Reinforcing the simplicity of the design is the deliberate omission of crown and other decorative trim. For contrast, countertops are honed and leathered Absolute Black granite; more black touches appear in the cabinet hardware and pot filler faucet. Adjoining the kitchen is the mud room and walk-in pantry. Shiplap siding and a sliding barn door pay tribute to the home’s origin. Drawers below an upholstered bench provide much-needed storage. But the star is the etched frosted glass pantry door with charming homespun labeling.

A coastal Scandinavian renovation project, combining a Victorian seaside cottage with Scandi design. We wanted to create a modern, open-plan living space but at the same time, preserve the traditional elements of the house that gave it it's character.

Builder: Boone Construction Photographer: M-Buck Studio This lakefront farmhouse skillfully fits four bedrooms and three and a half bathrooms in this carefully planned open plan. The symmetrical front façade sets the tone by contrasting the earthy textures of shake and stone with a collection of crisp white trim that run throughout the home. Wrapping around the rear of this cottage is an expansive covered porch designed for entertaining and enjoying shaded Summer breezes. A pair of sliding doors allow the interior entertaining spaces to open up on the covered porch for a seamless indoor to outdoor transition. The openness of this compact plan still manages to provide plenty of storage in the form of a separate butlers pantry off from the kitchen, and a lakeside mudroom. The living room is centrally located and connects the master quite to the home’s common spaces. The master suite is given spectacular vistas on three sides with direct access to the rear patio and features two separate closets and a private spa style bath to create a luxurious master suite. Upstairs, you will find three additional bedrooms, one of which a private bath. The other two bedrooms share a bath that thoughtfully provides privacy between the shower and vanity.
