TVL Creative Ltd.When a client tells us they’re a mid-century collector and long for a kitchen design unlike any other we are only too happy to oblige. This kitchen is saturated in mid-century charm and its custom features make it difficult to pin-point our favorite aspect!
Cabinetry
We had the pleasure of partnering with one of our favorite Denver cabinet shops to make our walnut dreams come true! We were able to include a multitude of custom features in this kitchen including frosted glass doors in the island, open cubbies, a hidden cutting board, and great interior cabinet storage. But what really catapults these kitchen cabinets to the next level is the eye-popping angled wall cabinets with sliding doors, a true throwback to the magic of the mid-century kitchen. Streamline brushed brass cabinetry pulls provided the perfect lux accent against the handsome walnut finish of the slab cabinetry doors.
Tile
Amidst all the warm clean lines of this mid-century kitchen we wanted to add a splash of color and pattern, and a funky backsplash tile did the trick! We utilized a handmade yellow picket tile with a high variation to give us a bit of depth; and incorporated randomly placed white accent tiles for added interest and to compliment the white sliding doors of the angled cabinets, helping to bring all the materials together.
Counter
We utilized a quartz along the counter tops that merged lighter tones with the warm tones of the cabinetry. The custom integrated drain board (in a starburst pattern of course) means they won’t have to clutter their island with a large drying rack. As an added bonus, the cooktop is recessed into the counter, to create an installation flush with the counter surface.
Stair Rail
Not wanting to miss an opportunity to add a touch of geometric fun to this home, we designed a custom steel handrail. The zig-zag design plays well with the angles of the picket tiles and the black finish ties in beautifully with the black metal accents in the kitchen.
Lighting
We removed the original florescent light box from this kitchen and replaced it with clean recessed lights with accents of recessed undercabinet lighting and a terrifically vintage fixture over the island that pulls together the black and brushed brass metal finishes throughout the space.
This kitchen has transformed into a strikingly unique space creating the perfect home for our client’s mid-century treasures.

MainStreet Design BuildThis Orchard Lake kitchen remodel was part of a whole house renovation. The clients wanted a large, open kitchen with room for multiple cooks and a warm, inviting space for entertaining guests and family. A custom Grabill kitchen was designed with professional grade Wolf and Thermador appliances, an oversize island and large windows highlighting the spectacular view of the lake.

Thyme & Place Design LLCThis small kitchen packs a powerful punch. By replacing an oversized sliding glass door with a 24" cantilever which created additional floor space. We tucked a large Reid Shaw farm sink with a wall mounted faucet into this recess. A 7' peninsula was added for storage, work counter and informal dining. A large oversized window floods the kitchen with light. The color of the Eucalyptus painted and glazed cabinets is reflected in both the Najerine stone counter tops and the glass mosaic backsplash tile from Oceanside Glass Tile, "Devotion" series. All dishware is stored in drawers and the large to the counter cabinet houses glassware, mugs and serving platters. Tray storage is located above the refrigerator. Bottles and large spices are located to the left of the range in a pull out cabinet. Pots and pans are located in large drawers to the left of the dishwasher. Pantry storage was created in a large closet to the left of the peninsula for oversized items as well as the microwave. Additional pantry storage for food is located to the right of the refrigerator in an alcove. Cooking ventilation is provided by a pull out hood so as not to distract from the lines of the kitchen.
Thyme & Place Design LLCThe client requested a kitchen that would not only provide a great space to cook and enjoy family meals but one that would fit in with her unique design sense. An avid collector of contemporary art, she wanted something unexpected in her 100-year-old home in both color and finishes but still providing a great layout with improved lighting, storage, and superior cooking abilities. The existing kitchen was in a closed off space trapped between the family room and the living. If you were in the kitchen, you were isolated from the rest of the house. Making the kitchen an integrated part of the home was a paramount request.
Step one, remove the wall separating the kitchen from the other rooms in the home which allowed the new kitchen to become an integrated space instead of an isolation room for the cook. Next, we relocated the pantry access which was in the family room to the kitchen integrating a poorly used recess which had become a catch all area which did not provide any usable space for storage or working area. To add valuable function in the kitchen we began by capturing unused "cubbies", adding a walk-in pantry from the kitchen, increasing the storage lost to un-needed drop ceilings and bring light and design to the space with a new large awning window, improved lighting, and combining interesting finishes and colors to reflect the artistic attitude of the client.
A bathroom located above the kitchen had been leaking into the plaster ceiling for several years. That along with knob and tube wiring, rotted beams and a brick wall from the back of the fireplace in the adjacent living room all needed to be brought to code. The walls, ceiling and floors in this 100+ year old home were completely out of level and the room’s foot print could not be increased.
The choice of a Sub-Zero wolf product is a standard in my kitchen designs. The quality of the product, its manufacturing and commitment to food preservation is the reason I specify Sub Zero Wolf. For the cook top, the integrated line of the contemporary cooktop and the signature red knobs against the navy blue of the cabinets added to the design vibe of the kitchen. The cooking performance and the large continuous grate on the cooktop makes it an obvious choice for a cook looking for a great cook top with professional results in a more streamlined profile. We selected a Sharp microwave drawer for the island, an XO wine refrigerator, Bosch dishwasher and Kitchen Aid double convection wall ovens to round out the appliance package.
A recess created by the fireplace was outfitted with a cabinet which now holds small appliances within easy reach of my very petite client. Natural maple accents were used inside all the wall cabinets and repeated on the front of the hood and for the sliding door appliance cabinet and the floating shelves. This allows a brighter interior for the painted cabinets instead of the traditional same interior as exterior finish choice. The was an amazing transformation from the old to the new.
The final touches are the honey bronze hardware from Top Knobs, Mitzi pendants from Hudson Valley Lighting group,
a fabulous faucet from Brizo. To eliminate the old freestanding bottled water cooler, we specified a matching water filter faucet.
Mike Blake Custom HomesThis masterfully designed kitchen is fit for entertaining every type of gathering from dinner parties to cocktail receptions. Plenty of natural light abound in the open-concept floor plan, seamlessly connecting the family room, morning room and kitchen.
Tucked away behind the traditional kitchen, lies a professional catering kitchen and butler’s pantry fully loaded with a secondary set of stainless-steel appliances, wine refrigerator, separate ice maker, broom closet and a custom rolling ladder to access the abundance of storage.
Shaker style cabinetry, swinging cafe doors to the caterer’s kitchen and intricate detail on the wooden vent hood set a tone for being on trend without being trendy.
A chef’s dream, this kitchen has all the bells and whistles—like an oversized island, expansive side-by-side freezer and refrigerator, dual dishwashers to beverage center, slide out dog bowls, pop out steps to access upper cabinets, filtered water station, LED lighting and hidden outlets in the upper cabinets.
This home has left nothing to be desired.
Chester County Kitchen & BathFull kitchen remodel and new luxury vinyl tile. This homes original kitchen needed a personality and we gave it one. Echelon Cabinetry in the Bedford door style in maple wood with a nutmeg stained finish make the new kitchen warm and inviting. Getting rid of the original kitchens dry walled soffits and doing cabinetry and trims to the ceiling added storage and a more appealing look. The granite countertops and tile backsplash work together nicely with the new vinyl tile floors. Vinyl tiles can be grouted and look just like real tile with all the durability but are softer and warmer on the feet. The new vinyl floorings are really something you should definitely check them out if you are considering new flooring for a kitchen or bath remodel.
Amazing SpacesThis project incorporated the main floor of the home. The existing kitchen was narrow and dated, and closed off from the rest of the common spaces. The client’s wish list included opening up the space to combine the dining room and kitchen, create a more functional entry foyer, and update the dark sunporch to be more inviting.
The concept resulted in swapping the kitchen and dining area, creating a perfect flow from the entry through to the sunporch.
The new kitchen features blue-gray cabinets with polished white countertops and a white island with a dramatic Cielo Quartzite countertop. The soffit above features stained shiplap, helping to create the boundary of the kitchen. Custom window treatments and rattan chairs make the space feel casual and sophisticated.
