The Balanced House was initially designed to investigate simple modular architecture which responded to the ruggedness of its Australian landscape setting. This dictated elevating the house above natural ground through the construction of a precast concrete base to accentuate the rise and fall of the landscape. The concrete base is then complimented with the sharp lines of Linelong metal cladding and provides a deliberate contrast to the soft landscapes that surround the property.

Placed on a large site with the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy at the rear boundary, this one story residence presents a modest, composed public façade to the street while opening to the rear yard with two wings surrounding a large loggia or “outdoor living room.” With its thick walls, overhangs, and ample cross ventilation, the project demonstrates the simple idea that a building should respond carefully to its environment. Photo Credit: Willett Photography http://www.willettphoto.com The home is located in Atlanta, GA and was a complete ground up project. We worked with the very talented architect Rodolfo Castro. We worked closely with him and the clients to achieve the right interior layout as well as the furniture plan. As far as the interior design, we helped with the selections of the various finishes (flooring, bathroom tiles, paint colors for both interior and exterior, hardware, furniture and light fixtures). Working with great vendors such as Francois & Co. for the kitchen hood and the fireplace, Specialty Tile, Circa Lighting, Century Furniture, and many other wonderful local vendors. This helped us achieve the perfect atmosphere and architectural detail in the space. The clients were very involved in the selection process and so it helped that they had great taste! It was a great project from concept to the finished design.

The designers bring harmony to the home’s interior architecture with color. They choose a calming pallet of a warm grey with light lavender accents. The existing dark hardwood floors are lime washed then stained grey. Elaborate molding, chair rail and trim are painted the same pale color as the ceiling. The soft palette tames the ornate architectural accents and creates an environment that is refined and meditative. A Bonisolli Photography

This stately, Chestnut Hill, circa 1890, brick home sits on idyllic grounds of mature planting. Our objective was to integrate the new with the old world charm of the property. We achieved this with additional plantings, seasonal color, restoring and adding masonry walls and steps as well as the installation of an elegant eurocobble drive and courtyard. The after renovation photo. wood railing painted dark mahogany and spindles off white changed the formality of the foyer. Applied molding to walls with tones of paint color against the off white add lightness. Center hall table is accented with interesting lamp and zebra ottoman. Photo by Peter Rymwid
