Fringe Dweller’s sculpted extension transforms an unassuming weatherboard cottage into a proud forever home. It walks multiple tightropes at once: balancing openness with privacy, strength with softness, and a rich history with our clients’ future needs. On Clifton Hill’s suburban edge, the house sits opposite the leafy Quarries Park Reserve. Our clients, Ishtar and Craig, have three children and purchased their cottage to create a long-term family home. Lying within a heritage overlay, the cottage’s traditional layout is largely preserved – only tweaked, in a wise parenting move, to form three equally sized bedrooms. The extension’s shared spaces feature rich materials, a warm palette and curved edges, creating a feeling of softness and easing transitions between zones. A staircase arcing through the living areas leads up to the lounge and main suite. Elevated above street level, these spaces can more freely relate to the park: the lounge’s attached balcony overlooks the park’s open field, while the main bedroom’s floor-to-ceiling window frames magnificent foliage. Downstairs, sliding doors connect the living areas to a semi-covered deck, while the garden beyond is embraced by a self-contained studio at the rear and high walls on either side. A brick wall interspersed with permeable screens lines the site’s public edge, balancing backyard privacy with neighbourhood connection. For passers-by, it’s a strong addition to the streetscape, granting glimpses of the lush garden within. Fringe Dweller embraces its presence on the fringe of the parklands, balancing its historical context with its future as a nurturing family home.

The welcoming front entrance combines warm timber steps, thoughtfully designed landscaping and durable Nu-Wall aluminium cladding to create a refined arrival sequence. The contemporary material palette complements the natural surroundings, giving the new Lake Ōkāreka home a calm and understated presence.

This two-storey new home in Beaumaris balances contemporary form with practical family living. Designed to respond to site orientation and coastal context, the layout maximises natural light, privacy, and connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. Material selection and detailing were carefully considered to achieve a refined, durable home suited to its location.

Positive Footprints

Das CONCEPT-M 177 ist ein Haus zum Verlieben: Mit dem umlaufenden Balkon, der vor dem Obergeschoss zu schweben scheint, und dem weit überstehenden Pultdach zieht es jeden Betrachter sofort in seinen Bann. Attraktive Akzente setzen lamellenartige Holzverschalungen sowie großzügige Verglasungen, die von schmalen Lichtbändern bis hin zu raumhohen Glaswänden reichen. Sie öffnen das Fertighaus seiner Umgebung und bringen die Natur als eindrucksvolles Panorama ins Innere. Die Raumaufteilung folgt einem durchdachten Konzept: Während sämtliche Funktions- und Nebenräume im Querriegel untergebracht sind, erstrecken sich die Wohnräume in Richtung Garten. Im Innern des Hauses werden die Besucher von einem repräsentativen Entree empfangen. Von hier aus fällt der Blick bereits durch die Gemeinschaftsräume – ohne zu viel davon preiszugeben — bis hinaus in den Garten. Das CONCEPT-M 177 Freiburg verbindet Offenheit und Privatsphäre zu einem luxuriösen Wohnerlebnis für alle Bewohner. In die Hausecke schmiegt sich eine stylishe Treppe mit Podest. Gegenüber des Treppenaufgangs liegt der Eingang zum Homeoffice. Eintreten lohnt sich, denn über eine große Festverglasung blickt man direkt auf den zentralen Essbereich. Dieser fungiert als Familientreffpunkt und verbindet den kulinarischen Bereich mit der schicken Couchlandschaft. Neben der modernen Kochinsel verbirgt sich ein kleiner Flur, der zum Gäste-WC und zum Technikraum führt. Das Obergeschoss ist eine wahre Wohlfühloase für eine vierköpfige Familie. An eine großzügige und luftige Galerie mit Leseecke schließen sich zwei Kinderzimmer, ein geräumiges Duschbad sowie der Elternschlafraum mit vorgelagerter Ankleide und Ensuite-Bad an. Absolutes Highlight ist die Sauna mit Glaswand zur Galerie. Besonders raffiniert sind zudem die Oberlichter, die die Neigung des Daches aufgreifen. Jeder Raum – bis auf das Kinderbad – besitzt einen Zugang zum Balkon. Dabei hat jedes Familienmitglied seinen eigenen, nicht einsehbaren Bereich. Il s'agit de la toute première maison entièrement construite par Mon Concept Habitation ! Autre particularité de ce projet : il a été entièrement dirigé à distance. Nos clients sont une famille d'expatriés, ils étaient donc peu présents à Paris. Mais grâce à notre processus et le suivi du chantier via WhatsApp, les résultats ont été à la hauteur de leurs attentes.
