The before and after photos really do the talking for these pictures. By painting the paneled walls and pulling up the aged carpet this home was completely transformed. The architectural details such as the arched doorways and vaulted ceiling are much more noticeable. The original wood floor hidden beneath the carpet was the perfect color match to the trim work and created the perfect anchor to pull the entire room together. The furniture being arranged on the far end of the room (rather than the middle) allows for easy TV viewing and true 'living space'. This also allowed ample space for a wine bar and easy walk through to the screened in porch area.

Mid-century inspired orange chairs.
A young family with a toddler bought a Decorist Makeover because they wanted budget-friendly decorating help for the living room in their new, bungalow-style Northern California residence. They were starting from scratch, and needed to affordably furnish the entire space in a way that was kid friendly, but adult-centric...a comfortable place to entertain guests, and relax and enjoy the fireplace and view.
Decorist designer Chrissy recommended an orange and gray palette, incorporating pattern and texture through the geometric rug, modern trellis pillows and the Mongolian fur throw pillow. And to be kid-friendly without compromising style, she chose tables with rounded edges, from the mid-century inspired oval wood coffee table to the pair of metal + marble CB2 side tables. Isn't it a cheerful space? We'd move in! http://www.decorist.com/makeovers/10/a-california-bungalow-gets-a-modern

Take II staging & redesign
This room required changing the furniture layout dramatically. Wing chairs were relocated to frame the fireplace and the sofa was moved to the opposite wall. The piano was relocated (out of camera range in this photo), but remained in the living room. A pretty secretary was "borrowed" from another room. We swapped out oriental rugs: the blue in this photo came from the master bedroom, the large one formerly in the living room found a home in the family room, and a smaller oriental from the family room replaced the blue in the master bedroom.
