An unused family space becomes a destination for reading, music, relaxing and entertaining.

Industrial chic, neutrals, comfortable, warm and welcoming for friends and family and loyal pet dog. Custom made hardwood dining table, baby grand piano, linen drapery panels, fabulous graphic art, custom upholstered chairs, fine bed linens, funky accessories, accents of gold, bronze and silver. All make for an eclectic, classic, timeless, downtown loft home for a professional bachelor who loves music, dogs, and living in the city.

My client embodies warmth and spiritual/family values. She wanted her home to reflect that same feeling. I found a way to celebrate the beauty of the moldings and 12 foot ceilings, by working with a warm and inviting color palette that allowed her favorite color red to take center stage.

We turned one open space into two distinct spaces. The home owner opted to have the pianist face away from the room in order to allow for more seating. The goal was to enhance the home owner's suite of inherited wood furniture by adding color and art. Interior Design by AJ Margulis Interiors. Photos by Paul Bartholomew

This bedroom on Sunset Cliffs in Sand Diego was designed for a lovely and well-traveled couple who likes to keep their space minimal and organized. They like color and simplicity. We played with scale and pattern to create interest to make this their ideal retreat at the end of the day.

This artistic and design-forward family approached us at the beginning of the pandemic with a design prompt to blend their love of midcentury modern design with their Caribbean roots. With her parents originating from Trinidad & Tobago and his parents from Jamaica, they wanted their home to be an authentic representation of their heritage, with a midcentury modern twist. We found inspiration from a colorful Trinidad & Tobago tourism poster that they already owned and carried the tropical colors throughout the house — rich blues in the main bathroom, deep greens and oranges in the powder bathroom, mustard yellow in the dining room and guest bathroom, and sage green in the kitchen. This project was featured on Dwell in January 2022.
