The brief for this project was for the house to be at one with its surroundings. Integrating harmoniously into its coastal setting a focus for the house was to open it up to allow the light and sea breeze to breathe through the building. The first floor seems almost to levitate above the landscape by minimising the visual bulk of the ground floor through the use of cantilevers and extensive glazing. The contemporary lines and low lying form echo the rolling country in which it resides.

A sandblasted pattern in the concrete floor carries the eye from the front door, through the house, and over the negative-edge pool. Fifty mile views of the valley beyond make the home feel like it floats in the air. The house is built on a radius, which demands custom shapes for furnishings and area rugs.

The heart of the home consists of the living room and the family room, separated by a large two sided fire place. This created the sense of 'rooms' in a largely open part of the house. The finishes are modern while the furniture is soft and comfortable.
