Revitalize, update, and addition on a 1920's Old California home, thought to be a real George Washington Smith in Ojai, California. Wide, thick plaster arches, old farm paintings, comfortable, ranchy furniture give this place a real old world Spanish charm. Hand kotted antique rugs and fine bench made new furniture reflects the original style of Santa Barbara, CA, giving the sense this place is completely original. And much of it is, although it has been completely revamped, adding a larger stair case, wide arches, new master suite including a sitting room with a tv. Maraya Interiors completely changed the kitchen, adding new cabinetry, a blue granite island, and custom made terra cotta tile in multiple shapes and sizes. The home has a dining room for larger gatherings, and a small kitchen table for intimate family breakfasts. A high living room ceiling has been imitated in the new master suite with very large steel windows through out.
Project Location: Ojai, CA. Designed by Maraya Interior Design. From their beautiful resort town of Ojai, they serve clients in Montecito, Hope Ranch, Malibu, Westlake and Calabasas, across the tri-county areas of Santa Barbara, Ventura and Los Angeles, south to Hidden Hills- north through Solvang and more.

In the dining room, travertine wall claddings and light wood columns contrast with the wood furniture and dark arch of the groin vaulted ceiling. An Arte de Mexico chandelier centers above an alder table. The floor is covered in honed travertine inlaid with polished Costa Esmerelda marble and bordered by antique bronze marble.

Morgante Wilson Architects created a brick groin vaulted ceiling in this Dining Room to add to the italian feel. Antique chandeliers hang above the dining table. The mix and match dining chairs are upholstered in neutral fabrics which have varying textures.

This older home had undergone many alterations over the years, this project took on the nature of an archeological excavation as the architects renovated and expanded it. Arches and expansive windows articulate the newest addition, which then grows into the existing brick façade. The breakfast room’s formality recalls al fresco meals in a Mediterranean grotto. The kitchen boasts contemporary amenities, but keeps its formal details and basks in the brilliance of window-punctuated walls. Using the original architecture, the team reinvented the vocabulary of this home and used it in the expansion. Limestone was used as a unifying element to incorporate alterations from different eras.
