What struck us strange about this property was that it was a beautiful period piece but with the darkest and smallest kitchen considering it's size and potential. We had a quite a few constrictions on the extension but in the end we managed to provide a large bright kitchen/dinning area with direct access to a beautiful garden and keeping the 'new ' in harmony with the existing building. The original built-in cabinetry was removed to make space for a new compact en-suite. The guest room was repurposed as a home office as well.

The image showcases a chic and contemporary bathroom vanity area with a focus on clean lines and monochromatic tones. The vanity cabinet features a textured front with vertical grooves, painted in a crisp white that contrasts with the sleek black handles and faucet. This combination of black and white creates a bold, graphic look that is both modern and timeless. Above the vanity, a round mirror with a thin black frame reflects the clean aesthetic of the space, complementing the other black accents. The wall behind the vanity is partially tiled with white subway tiles, adding a classic bathroom touch that meshes well with the contemporary features. A two-bulb wall sconce is mounted above the mirror, providing ample lighting with a minimalist design that doesn't detract from the overall simplicity of the decor. To the right, a towel ring holds a white towel, continuing the black and white theme. This bathroom design is an excellent example of how minimalist design can be warm and inviting while still maintaining a sleek and polished look. The careful balance of textures, colors, and lighting creates an elegant space that is functional and stylish.

Ensuite bathroom - Loft conversion

DESPUÉS: Se sustituyó la bañera por una práctica y cómoda ducha con una hornacina. Los azulejos estampados y 3D le dan un poco de energía y color a este nuevo espacio en blanco y negro. El baño principal es uno de los espacios más logrados. No fue fácil decantarse por un diseño en blanco y negro, pero por tratarse de un espacio amplio, con luz natural, y no ha resultado tan atrevido. Fue clave combinarlo con una hornacina y una mampara con perfilería negra.

Changed from a boring unorganized Primary Bathroom to one with a deep walk-in shower, custom niche and bench, and multiple shower fixtures. Equally impressive is the freestanding tub with a beautiful Carrara marble backdrop continued from the walk-in shower. Gray tile floors w/ a white shaker vanity and white quartz top allow the chrome fixtures to really pop in this gorgeous space.

We planned a thoughtful redesign of this beautiful home while retaining many of the existing features. We wanted this house to feel the immediacy of its environment. So we carried the exterior front entry style into the interiors, too, as a way to bring the beautiful outdoors in. In addition, we added patios to all the bedrooms to make them feel much bigger. Luckily for us, our temperate California climate makes it possible for the patios to be used consistently throughout the year. The original kitchen design did not have exposed beams, but we decided to replicate the motif of the 30" living room beams in the kitchen as well, making it one of our favorite details of the house. To make the kitchen more functional, we added a second island allowing us to separate kitchen tasks. The sink island works as a food prep area, and the bar island is for mail, crafts, and quick snacks. We designed the primary bedroom as a relaxation sanctuary – something we highly recommend to all parents. It features some of our favorite things: a cognac leather reading chair next to a fireplace, Scottish plaid fabrics, a vegetable dye rug, art from our favorite cities, and goofy portraits of the kids. --- Project designed by Courtney Thomas Design in La Cañada. Once a big pink and yellow bathroom shared by the whole family, we split the room down the middle to create two bathrooms. As this one didn't get the window, we put in a gorgeous sky window for light, ventilation and style. The generous walk-in shower has a nib feature wall in green tile. The custom vanity was designed with open shelving for towels which added to the beach vibe. The fun 'pineapple' pendants are loved by everyone.

A floating double vanity in this modern bathroom. The floors are porcelain tiles that give it a cement feel. The large recessed medicine cabinets provide plenty of extra storage.
