The small, yet statement-making bar is located in a great area: between the living room and around the corner from the kitchen. This way, you won't miss a segment of your favorite TV show or sports team playing. The large drawers keep cups and utensils out of site until they're ready to use. The open shelving can display more interesting accessories or your favorite drinks. And the small sink ensures your dishes are clean and ready for the next get-together.

In September of 2015, Boston magazine opened its eleventh Design Home project at Turner Hill, a residential, luxury golf community in Ipswich, MA. The featured unit is a three story residence with an eclectic, sophisticated style. Situated just miles from the ocean, this idyllic residence has top of the line appliances, exquisite millwork, and lush furnishings. Landry & Arcari Rugs and Carpeting consulted with lead designer Chelsi Christensen and provided over a dozen rugs for this project. By Monday, we wanted to surprise them with their own (stocked) Brooklyn bar. New brick walls were added and tagged with Nina Simone, vintage mint booths, a live-edge table top, custom light fixtures, and details create a chill spot. Antler bottle openers, Moroccan rugs, hat holders to display Tariq’s collection, vintage bar-ware and shakers... The collected parts are all as authentic as The Roots. “I wanted to give the Roots a real spot to feel good and hang in, not just a place to change. The bottle cap tramp art and history / cultural references of the collected items in this room were a tribute to the smart timelessness of the band… and of course we made sure that the bar was fully stocked…” - Kyla Design Deep Dives Industrial sculpture from a mill in New Bedford, MA, tramp art sculpture made from prohibition era bottle caps, Arthur Umanoff chairs, upcycled steel door, bent steel sculptural lamp (Detroit artist)

This Beautiful 5,931 sqft home renovation was completely transformed from a small farm bungalow. This house is situated on a ten-acre property with extensive farmland views with bright open spaces. Custom beam work was done on site to add the “rustic” element to many of the rooms, most specifically the bar area. Custom, site-built shelving and lockers were added throughout the house to accommodate the homeowner’s specific needs. Space saving barn doors add style and purpose to the walk-in closets in the ensuite, which includes walk-in shower, private toilet room, and free standing jet tub; things that were previously lacking. A “great room” was created on the main floor, utilizing the previously unusable living area, creating a space on the main floor big enough for the family to gather, and take full advantage of the beautiful scenery of the acreage.

Walk-up Bar in Espresso stained Rift Cut Oak and Maple. This little gem measures less than 6' long but packs all the necessities to service you and your guests for any occasion - resting just between the Kitchen and matching Entertainment Center for maximum convenience. The main focal point is the engraved lower doors with their concentric designs framing the glass front Cooler. Each side has interior liquor drawers built in for ease of selection when hunting for that seldom used liqueur. Above the open work surface hangs the stemware with LED lighting. The upper glass storage has 1/2" polished glass illuminated with cool operating LED lights all behind wood framed frosted glass inserts to match the white counter top

The most popular location for a home bar is in or near the kitchen or dining room. If you prefer entertaining outdoors, however, an outdoor bar can be a dream addition to any Aussie backyard – and imagine the luxury of swimming up to your very own pool bar! What type of home bar is best suited to your needs?

Home bars come in all shapes and sizes, and with an array of practicalities. Utilise an awkward corner with a cabinet bar; maximise floor space with a trunk bar, which unfolds to create a bar counter; or conveniently turn any space in your house into a bar room with a mobile bar such as a fun bar cart. If you prefer a more grandiose option, or all the amenities of a real bar, you can’t go past a built-in home bar.

What home bar functionalities do you want to include?

Decide how you will use the bar and whether you will need sinks, storage and refrigeration. Including a sink in your home bar design is a practical addition if you choose a location far from your kitchen. If you’re a wine connoisseur, you may want to include additional wine storage, whereas a mini bar fridge within the kitchen may need no extra storage at all. Home bars that will be used infrequently – perhaps an outdoor bar in the cooler months – may not need refrigeration and could suffice with large ice buckets.

What bar furniture will you need?

Seating is essential to any home bar and will impact the style of your home bar design. Bar stools, for example, come in an array of materials and styles, from traditional wooden bar stools, to resort- and industrial-style stools. Storage is another important element, so look for a liquor cabinet and wine racks. Next, if you are creating a freestanding station, you will need a bar table, which are taller and shallower than regular dining tables. Check that your stools and table height work together before you finalise any home bar designs.

How can you personalise your bar design?

Bar tools and accessories are an easy and interchangeable way to personalise your bar design. You may want to create a wine bar, tavern-style bar or retro bar, so look for wine glasses and tumblers, for instance, that will help carry this style. Coasters, bar mats or signage will help you to further achieve your desired look.
