Here are some photos of a recent landscape design we installed for one of our returning customers. Utilizing the space previously occupied by an above-ground pool, we created a gravel patio with a border of square pavers. Also, within the patio sits a wood-burning fire pit and a some random boulder groupings to add to the natural woodsy theme of the property. Around the exterior of the patio, we added several sets of boulder steps to access different areas of the yard. Above one set, we constructed a natural stone stepper pathway to connect the new outdoor living space with an area where we built a nice pond and stream a few years ago. Finally, we planted the area with a mix of deer-resistant plants and finished everything with some mulch and river gravel.

Oversize sawn limestone paving units create two distinct seating areas, nestled amongst the naturalistic planting. Limestone gravel offers offers textural interest and lower maintenance gardening.
The plant palette of hornbeam, pines, perennials and grasses references the Suffolk landscape, all suiting the free-draining soils of the site

New front patio and walkway design to update the entry and make it look fresh and very inviting. We loved the drama of the dark herring bone pattern ad the contrast with the bold cream solders and so did the client.

An entire yard was redesigned with enduring materials and varied plantings. Stones on site were repurposed into solid walls to create beds for new gardens that are rich in color & texture and provide extended multi-seasonal interest. New bluestone walkways with granite steps and cobble edging create a welcome entry to the front door and back deck. Low voltage landscape lighting is incorporated into the plantings to gently illuminate the front walk. Perimeter plantings offer visual interest at the woodland edge and screening from the street.

During the construction of the addition to this centuries old San Francisco home, our firm was brought in to create a design for the upper and lower outdoor decks, and surrounding garden space. The spiral staircase was the link that allowed for maximum deck space below. The bottom deck was brought lower by taking two broad steps down from the house thus eliminating the need for railing. This was very important to the owners’ desire to feel connected to the surrounding garden. A fire pit, placed off of center, created the focal point for the seating area. A cobalt blue water feature was placed close to the house so it could be enjoyed both from within the house and while sitting on the deck. The many vibrant colored pots placed along the deck edges were planted with a small Meyer Lemon tree, herbs for cooking, and mint for tea, as well as some colorful ornamental grasses and perennials.
On the upper rooftop deck, we installed numerous skylights to allow light to the lower addition, and added appropriate native plants and succulents. In the front of the house, we cut in two large street planters and added matching Olive trees, under planted with colorful Mexican Salvia and orange New Zealand Wind Grass.
Ecological Concerns- Leaders in Sustainable Design
This backyard was transformed into a Moroccan themed poolside oasis. Ecological Concerns Incorporated oversaw the design and construction of the project. After installing natural habitat areas and California native plants, this poolside paradise is now drought tolerant and practically maintenance free.
