Art Deco characteristics were central to the design, as it reflects the home, hence the strong curved lines and predominantly white appearance. Image by Dave Kulesza
Dutton Architects Inc.
Dutton Architects did an extensive renovation of a post and beam mid-century modern house in the canyons of Beverly Hills. The house was brought down to the studs, with new interior and exterior finishes, windows and doors, lighting, etc. A secure exterior door allows the visitor to enter into a garden before arriving at a glass wall and door that leads inside, allowing the house to feel as if the front garden is part of the interior space. Similarly, large glass walls opening to a new rear gardena and pool emphasizes the indoor-outdoor qualities of this house. photos by Undine Prohl

Everybody in the pool! Mid Century inspired pergola design was the added touch this old patio needed to become the gathering spot for R&R.
Paul Davis Architects
The backyard features a reconfigured swimming pool and cast-in-place deck. The raised concrete platform beyond acts as a focal point for the garden, and features terra-cotta tile insets using material from the original house's outdoor courtyard. Board-formed concrete planters and fountains rim the area.
The lush grass seen here requires no water - it is synthetic, and a great success.
