The Chatsworth Residence was a complete renovation of a 1950's suburban Dallas ranch home. From the offset of this project, the owner intended for this to be a real estate investment property, and subsequently contracted David to develop a design design that would appeal to a broad rental market and to lead the renovation project. The scope of the renovation to this residence included a semi-gut down to the studs, new roof, new HVAC system, new kitchen, new laundry area, and a full rehabilitation of the property. Maintaining a tight budget for the project, David worked with the owner to maintain a high level of craftsmanship and quality of work throughout the project.

The goal of this project was to create an updated, brighter, and larger kitchen for the whole family to enjoy. This new kitchen also needed to seamlessly integrate with the rest of the home both functionally and aesthetically. The laundry room also needed an aesthetic refresh. What sets this kitchen apart is the laminated plywood edging between walnut cabinetry and the door handle detail integrated within those boundaries.

Our Austin studio decided to go bold with this project by ensuring that each space had a unique identity in the Mid-Century Modern style bathroom, butler's pantry, and mudroom. We covered the bathroom walls and flooring with stylish beige and yellow tile that was cleverly installed to look like two different patterns. The mint cabinet and pink vanity reflect the mid-century color palette. The stylish knobs and fittings add an extra splash of fun to the bathroom. The butler's pantry is located right behind the kitchen and serves multiple functions like storage, a study area, and a bar. We went with a moody blue color for the cabinets and included a raw wood open shelf to give depth and warmth to the space. We went with some gorgeous artistic tiles that create a bold, intriguing look in the space. In the mudroom, we used siding materials to create a shiplap effect to create warmth and texture – a homage to the classic Mid-Century Modern design. We used the same blue from the butler's pantry to create a cohesive effect. Consider a custom-built cupboard for an ironing board, so it can easily fold out when you need it, or mount the ironing board directly to the wall or on the back of a door.
