Our clients wanted to update their original mid century kitchen with a new, updated version.
Walnut boxes with painted doors and drawer fronts was designed with Boomerang pulls to create that retro, but modern look. A huge island was designed so the family could eat dinner together in the kitchen. A long and tall wall of pantry storage was created, along with a small bench for sitting on to take shoes on and off and store grocery bags inside.
Custom live-edge walnut shelves were used as storage and for the pony wall cap near the front entry. Large format textured tile was installed to limit grout, but bring in a unique, textural element to the backsplash.
Mid century style lighting was installed above the sink and cloud-like pendants were hung high above the island for the tall clients to be able to see around and not bump their heads into.
Our clients were truly thrilled with the finished project and have received many compliments on it's true to mid-century design.
Fox Interiors
This kitchen in a Mid-century modern home features rift-cut white oak and matte white cabinets, white quartz countertops and a marble-life subway tile backsplash.
The original hardwood floors were saved to keep existing character. The new finishes palette suits their personality and the mid-century details of their home.
We eliminated a storage closet and a small hallway closet to inset a pantry and refrigerator on the far wall. This allowed the small breakfast table to remain.
By relocating the refrigerator from next to the range, we allowed the range to be centered in the opening for more usable counter and cabinet space on both sides.
A counter-depth range hood liner doesn’t break the line of the upper cabinets for a sleeker look.
Large storage drawers include features like a peg system to hold pots in place and a shallow internal pull-out shelf to separate lids from food storage containers.

What began as a simple kitchen ‘face-lift’ turned into a more complex kitchen remodel when it was determined that what the client was really seeking was to create a space which evoked the warmth of wood. The challenge was to take a dated (c. 1980’s) white plastic laminate kitchen with a white Formica counter top and transform it into a warmly, wood-clad kitchen without having to demolish the entire kitchen cabinetry. With new door and drawer faces and the careful ‘skinning’ of the existing laminate cabinets with a stained maple veneer; the space became more luxurious and updated. The counter top was replaced with a new quartz slab from Eurostone. The peninsula now accommodates counter-height seating. The Haiku bamboo ceiling fan from Big Ass Fans graces the family room.
