L’objectif principal de ce projet a été de réorganiser entièrement les espaces en insufflant une atmosphère épurée empreinte de poésie, tout en respectant les volumes et l’histoire de la construction, ici celle de Charles Dalmas, le majestueux Grand Palais de Nice. Suite à la dépose de l’ensemble des murs et à la restructuration de la marche en avant, la lumière naturelle a pu s’inviter dans l’ensemble de l’appartement, créant une entrée naturellement lumineuse. Dans le double séjour, la hauteur sous plafond a été conservée, le charme de l’haussmannien s’est invité grâce aux détails architecturaux atypiques comme les corniches, la niche, la moulure qui vient englober les miroirs. La cuisine, située initialement au fond de l’appartement, est désormais au cœur de celui-ci et devient un véritable lieu de rencontre. Une niche traversante délimite le double séjour de l’entrée et permet de créer deux passages distincts. Cet espace, composé d’une subtile association de lignes orthogonales, trouve son équilibre dans un mélange de rose poudré, de laiton doré et de quartz blanc pur. La table ronde en verre aux pieds laiton doré devient un élément sculptural autour duquel la cuisine s’organise. L’ensemble des placards est de couleur blanc pur, pour fusionner avec les murs de l’appartement. Les salles de bain sont dans l’ensemble carrelées de zellige rectangulaire blanc, avec une robinetterie fabriqué main en France, des luminaires et des accessoires en finition laiton doré réchauffant ces espaces. La suite parentale qui remplace l’ancien séjour, est adoucie par un blanc chaud ainsi qu’un parquet en chêne massif posé droit. Le changement de zone est marqué par une baguette en laiton et un sol différent, ici une mosaïque bâton rompu en marbre distinguant l’arrivée dans la salle de bain. Cette dernière a été pensée comme un cocon, refuge de douceur.

Each bathroom in this remodeled condo has its own personality and serves a different purpose. This powder room was notched out of a linen closet and space borrowed from the adjoining bathroom. The floor was raised to provide access to plumbing. The black and white mosaic tile, on the floor and the wall behind the toilet, is reflected in the mirror over the floating industrial vanity.

Midcentury Powder Room Design Ideas with White Walls

Think of your powder room as a small bathroom that’s always on display. Likely to be frequented by guests or used as a second bathroom by family members, it should always look its best. Consisting of little more than a vanity, toilet and sink, you could be mistaken that midcentury powder room designs are easy to execute, but the tight space can be tricky to get right. As you plan your bathroom renovation, consider the following.

How do I plan the layout of my powder room?

If you're building from scratch, an architect may be the best person to ask. There are three main objects to consider when planning the layout of your midcentury powder room: the door, toilet and sink. Pocket, sliding or folding doors will give you more options for toilet and sink placement, while wall-mounted toilets will help save you a few inches of floor space, and make the room feel more spacious. To ensure ease of use, make sure the toilet has at least 38 centimetres of unobstructed space on either side, and 61 centimetres at the front. Powder rooms are primarily a place to use the toilet and quickly wash your hands, so unless you have the square meterage, you don’t need a full-blown vanity. Look for compact options, like a pedestal or wall-mounted sink instead.

What materials should I use in my powder room?

There’s not much space to work with when designing a midcentury powder room, so keep your design fairly simple. Otherwise, too many different patterns and textures will quickly overwhelm the space. To avoid a disjointed design, opt for one statement piece or element, such as a fun splashback, benchtop or vanity, and choose subtle materials like stone, marble or granite for everything else. If you fear you haven’t created enough visual interest, fill the void with bathroom accessories such as hand towels and soap dispensers. High-quality bathroom fixtures – including everything from your toilet roll holder to faucet – with matching lines and style, will make a big difference in a such a small space, so if you have the budget, splurge a little!
