Tearing off the old oak mantel and cream ceramic tile was just the begining of the transformation to this fireplace. After that, we painted the insert black and converted the system to gas logs with a remote start. Toasty! Then to increase the drama we installed natural looking tile in a broken-bond lay over the entire face, floor to ceiling. This simple and natural looking material is contrasted by elegance achieved by painting the oak bookcases black.
