Complete landscape design with a patio viewing area of the lake. Site Challenges were using the existing steep grades to create outdoor spaces and storage. The use of the existing hill led a great challenge to allow users to navigate around the property. Installing steps from the upper terrace to the lower terrace created new grand entrances to multiple sitting areas. Round sunken area created a great space to view the lake and have an evening fire. Wind was also a concern, so adding a small shed helped keep furniture safe from high winds and storms, while also allowing winter storage.

The low, chaparral native foliage closest to the home have mastered the art of maintaining hydration and resisting fire. Planted areas can "catch" embers, preventing them from rolling and bouncing along a hardscape to collect at the base of the home. If fire is within the region, the mobile BBQ can easily be moved away from the home, and hanging art stored for safety. Photo: Lesly Hall Photography

The original gardens of this Fort Worth estate date back to 1936 when the famous Kansas City landscape architecture firm Hare & Hare designed the grounds featuring sculpted boxwood english knot garden. The homeowner purchased the adjacent lot and called on the accomplished Dallas & Fort Worth architect Ralph Duesing to create a design to honor the original design but scale to encompass the full four and a half acres. This extensive remodel included the extension of the perimeter walls, wrought iron elements and the addition of a classical carved limestone lily pond and Diana sculptured pedestal by Davis Cornell.
