A place to enjoy a hot soak, a homemade meal, and the backyard views. Several large boulders make a natural seating area or a place to set up a buffet for an outdoor picnic.

A relatively small site (400 m2) with big trees has been the main source of inspiration of this house. Decisions have been made to improve the relationship between the interior of the house and the garden, both in ground and upper level. Thus, the project conceives the landscape as a part of the house, and this garden is also a sustainable barrier that regulates the temperature inside (mainly deciduous trees). An open plan has allowed large perspectives. Wherever it was possible, sliding doors allow spatial fluidity while still allow some privacy. Natural materials (wood and stone) reinforce the connection with the garden.

I love the mix of warm and cool colors and varying texture in this gorgeous fall planting. A diamond shape was used as a constant throughout the space in order to provide a common theme and connecting look throughout the garden.

This mix of flowering cabbage, coreopsis, rudbeckia and pachysandra backdropped by the yew hedge was an undeniable delight. This garden was installed at the end of the summer due to the construction timetable. The fall presence this afforded the space was knockout.

Now the homeowners have a contemporary, quiet space for entertaining, free the elements that didn't work (turf grass, unused flower beds) and full of Zen.
The Ardent Gardener Landscape Design
A significant back garden remodel in North Ogden, Utah. Local sandstone ties a big project together, with blond sandstone garden walls, patio, bridges, fireplace, fire pit and patio. Concrete patios have stone ribbons. Pushing back brambles and capturing groundwater allowed this space to triple in size. It's now a parklike setting providing a serene retreat for this family. Bronze scuppers built into a stone garden wall make for a unique water feature, and is visible from most parts of the garden and the back of the home. Fireplace separates two outdoor spaces, creating 'rooms'. Lush planting complete the picture.
