This large scale project consisted of updating the existing tennis court, detached garage and adding a modern office space. The tennis court was completely re-finished with the addition of new surrounding fencing. The detached office is a custom, modern design that accommodates the client’s home business needs. The custom water features nicely compliment the expansive landscaping and custom patio area for the clients to relax and enjoy this spectacular property with the whole family.

A Backyard Resort with a freeform saltwater pool as the focal point, a spa provides a spot to relax. A large raised waterfall spills into the pool, appearing to flow from the koi pond above. We extended a streambed to flow from behind the outdoor kitchen, all the way to the patio, to spill into the koi pond. A Sports Court at one end of the yard with putting greens meander throughout the landscape and the water features. A curved outdoor kitchen with a large Viking grill with a warming drawer to the sink and outdoor refrigeration. A Pavilion with large roof and columns unite the landscape with the home while creating an outdoor living room with a stone fireplace along the back wall, while still allowing views of the yard beyond.

The granite stone wall, custom pool and spa are located near an expansive view of a tidal marsh on Cape Cod, MA. The naturalistic design enhances the existing topography by incorporating elements found on the property. The Modern swimming pool and spa are situated to take advantage of the ocean view.

ActiveIn architecture, a folly is a design wherein aesthetic extravagance transcends function. In other words, they're a hoot. Land+Shelter’s pond pavilion and swing elevates the humble swimming hole to new heights of design. With this graceful arched pond swing we offer visitors the chance to choose their own level of excitement. Choose your step, then jump! In the pond pavilion, a simple steel frame and dark neutral curtains frame the landscape beyond as an ever changing painting. The compact pavilion plan combines a fireplace, water, and shade - all the essential elements of pond enjoyment in one sleek package. Swimming holes aren’t supposed to be elegant; we beg to differ! This fun pavilion and swing project offered us the chance to combine landscape and architecture in a custom steel design package truly unique to this family estate.

How to Create a Garden for Your Home

Don’t worry if your backyard isn’t very spacious - there are many plants that can thrive even in a small space and allow you to turn your space into a little paradise of your own, regardless of size.

Decide which plants to use

The greenery you choose is critical to your look. For example, if you’re trying to create a tropical garden palm trees and bamboo are your go-to options. Other popular options are golden cane palm trees and fern for ground cover. From there you can add some colour with bright flowers like frangipani, hibiscus or bromeliads. All these are actually quite hardy plants, so once established, your tropical garden is actually quite easy to maintain. Use this structure and apply it to your style. Research which plants you need to set your base for a garden and go from there.

Add some decor

If the plants don’t quite do it for you yet, or if you want to add some extra wow-factor, consider adding some extra features. Even if you can’t accommodate a swimming pool, hot tub or pond, you could look at smaller water features. Simple rocks can also have a great effect, while statues and gnomes will add some extra character. Don’t forget to add some furniture so you have a nice place to sit and enjoy your garden!
