This white-on-white kitchen design has a transitional style and incorporates beautiful clean lines. It features a Personal Paint Match finish on the Kitchen Island matched to Sherwin-Williams "Threshold Taupe" SW7501 and a mix of light tan paint and vibrant orange décor. These colors really pop out on the “white canvas” of this design. The designer chose a beautiful combination of white Dura Supreme cabinetry (in "Classic White" paint), white subway tile backsplash, white countertops, white trim, and a white sink. The built-in breakfast nook (L-shaped banquette bench seating) attached to the kitchen island was the perfect choice to give this kitchen seating for entertaining and a kitchen island that will still have free counter space while the homeowner entertains. A listed very old cottage was in need of a new kitchen that would be sympathetic to the space and the chestnut dresser the client already had.To maximise the space, we moved the Everhot cooker from the end wall to the side. We were then able to utilise the corners better with an open shelving unit made out of reclaimed pine and oak.a new sink unit with cupboard with drawers and doors was also made and 2 pull-out worktops added to provide more work surface and a breakfast table. The height of the ceiling also allowed us to fit a shelving unit for the pots and pans and free up the lower shelves.

The client came to us looking for a kitchen remodel for her Redwood City home. She donned a wild, colorful skirt and a charming personality—and she was looking to echo her style in her home. We were smitten with the client who travels the world with her partner collecting odd and wonderful items: goose feet salt-and-pepper stoneware, strange furniture, off-the-wall lamp fixtures, and a cow portrait from Istanbul aptly titled Miss Cow. To match and balance their collection and personalities, we embraced the eclectic in subtle but significant ways. First, we brought the outside in. We removed a few walls to open the kitchen into the dining and living space and to the large, floor-to-ceiling windows that lined the west side of the home. These look over a large acre of land that’s carefully kept and worked to grow an abundance of vegetables, and they introduced a vibrant scene to the kitchen. We chose soft, light colors for the kitchen cabinets and backspace with simple, homey stainless steel and glass wall cabinets. This allowed the clients’ colorful accessories and fresh goods to shine. Then, as a statement piece, we used a faux marble backsplash and countertop—understated to marry well with the vibrant home, but iconic. We contrasted this with a Belgian-blue Neolith countertop on the island where the goose feet stoneware would live. As the final touch, we brought in Miss Cow, whose bright green background and pink nose added the perfect pop of color and demanded attention. Finally, we vetted a contractor to work on the updates—someone both we and the client could trust.

You don’t want to end up with a finished design, only for your significant other to question where the fridge is supposed to go. Consider from the start where your fridge, oven, microwave and sink goes to save yourself from starting again from scratch - remember the kitchen work triangle! You also want to plan the layout of your cabinets. Maybe you’re planning for a pantry and can do with less storage space in your kitchen, so that your design can be one without upper or lower cabinets for a different look. A corner cabinet can be a smart storage solution if you want to keep the look clean and simple.

3. Decide on a Kitchen Style, But Don’t Forget Practicality

You want the style of your kitchen to reflect your personality and taste.
