A vibrant family roof terrace full of wind and drought tolerant flowers with a long flowering season, flowing grasses which stand through the winter are constantly moving in the slightest breeze, adding a dynamic and lively element. Architectural structure is provided by the cantilever posts. lighting brings the space to life in the evening with uplighting to accentuate the architectural posts, trees and grasses. LED lanterns cast a soft light across the paving and down lights from the cantilever posts link the garden with the surrounding city.

Roof Garden entrance which spans the roof of a parking garage. The plantings selected are native to UpState new York and consist of many plants that were historically used by Native Americans and settlers for medical purposes. The glass cold houses are windows to the underground garage.

Flagstone is one of the best materials for patios primarily due to its narrow packed joints that allow water to permeate instead of running off. Flagstone patios also have a very natural, organic look due to their shape and earthy shades of browns, reds, grays and blues. The most common types of flagstone used for paving patios are sandstone, slate and limestone. Flagstone provides a durable and naturally slip-resistant patio surface that will last for years.

Amber Freda Garden Design
This stunning rooftop oasis in Manhattan’s Flatiron District is anything but flat with its swimming pool, outdoor shower, built-in kitchen and planters, and cobalt blue accent planters. All of this can be yours, too, since this spacious penthouse apartment is currently on the market for $18 million. The plantings include accents of gold, which pair strikingly with the bright blue ceramic pots. We chose a combination of structured looking plantings like Steed hollies, arborvitaes, boxwoods, and ‘Gold Sword’ yuccas, all of which create a high contrast look against the looser and more informal look of plantings like blue and white violas, gold mop cypresses, and weeping ‘Blue Atlas’ cedars. All of the planters contain low-voltage landscape lighting and drip irrigation. See more of our projects at www.amberfreda.com.
