When selling your home, It can be a mistake to rip out an original kitchen or bathroom if it is in good condition, has all the mod cons people expect and can showcase the potential for future adaptation or renovations. This kitchen had been previously updated in the 1970s - as in wood grain bench tops and brown wall tiles - but had great storage, and the potential for further floor space by closing off two of the four doors into the room. So instead of demolishing and starting over, extra space was created for a dishwasher and open shelving for vintage kitchenalia to be displayed, new "retro" wall tiles, a vintage double sink, tapware, new bench tops and handles were added to bring back that cheery 1950s feel, while also improving function.
Result? A kitchen that sold the house to some young mid century enthusiasts!

Bilotta Kitchen & Home
This clean, contemporary, white kitchen, in a New York City penthouse, was designed by Bilotta's Goran Savic and Regina Bilotta in collaboration with Jennifer Post of Jennifer Post Design. The cabinetry is Bilotta’s contemporary line, Artcraft. A flat panel door in a high-gloss white lacquer finish, the base cabinet hardware is a channel system while the tall cabinets have long brushed stainless pulls. All of the appliances are Miele, either concealed behind white lacquer panels or featured in their “Brilliant White” finish to keep the clean, integrated design. On the island, the Gaggenau cooktop sits flush with the crisp white Corian countertop; on the parallel wall the sink is integrated right into the Corian top. The mirrored backsplash gives the illusion of a more spacious kitchen – after all, large, eat-in kitchens are at a premium in Manhattan apartments! At the same time it offers view of the cityscape on the opposite side of the apartment.

The new kitchen is warm and welcoming with white inset shaker cabinets, a large island with mix and match seating, custom stained oak floors and an oak island countertop. The walls are painted white wood, a vertical ship-lap. Divided lite windows and crown molding help connect the new construction to the traditional, colonial style of the rest of the house. A large white vent hood makes the stove a focal point.

Reconfigure an dark and cramped original kitchen, laundry porch and bathroom to accommodate a more generous kitchen and bathroom. The laundry room was moved to another space closer to the bedrooms. The bathroom had to be accessible from both the adjacent bedroom and the hallway. The Client wanted to keep the feeling of the original house's style plus reuse her vintage stove and create a space she would love to cook in with great light and modern conveniences.

This cozy kitchen has all the country charm you could ask for from cream colors and perfect lighting to snow white appliances, light granite counters and a farm style sink.
The diamond pattern tile backsplash with the base tile works wonderfully here.
