This family wanted a room where the newest addition to the family could grow up in without having to change "themes" every couple of years. Mom & Dad already had most of the furniture. They just needed a few finishing touches to pull everything together.. We incorporated art that his big sisters created for that personal family touch. Birch trees, sticks and stones, rustic lighting and several animals all help to create a rugged yet playful feel to the space. A big cozy chair finishes it all off.

A recently completed project for a little boys first bedroom. We used Craig and Rose's paint on the wall and added pops of rust and navy with accessories. The bookshelves created a little reading nook and we added comfort with lots of cosy textiles.

La chambre de votre bébé est un véritable univers où il va grandir, jouer, s'épanouir et où vous allez passer ensemble des moments inoubliables. Couleurs, motifs, meubles, lit, lumière, déco, tous ces petits détails comptent pour beaucoup lorsqu'il faut créer tout un monde où la tendresse domine et où votre enfant va grandir. Pour la rénovation de cette chambre, je devais trouver une solution d’aménagement afin de placer tous les éléments nécessaires pour accueillir un nouveau-né. La problématique était que celle-ci est très mansardée, et très petite, en loi carrez elle fait moins de 7 m2. La pièce pourra accueillir par la suite un bureau en remplacement du lit de bébé, et un lit d'enfant prendra place au niveau de la table à langer. Il est essentiel de tenir compte des évolutions futures. Afin d'apporter une impression de grandeur, j'ai conseillé à mes clients de peindre le lambris en blanc et d'y apporter des couleurs claires. Une note de bleu acidulé amène une touche ludique à l'ensemble.

The windows have been renewed with a much better and more efficient window system, increasing the energy efficiency in the space. This nursery by Etienne Interiors features a transitional design which is fresh, modern and follows the trend of nurseries that look anything but. The client wanted to incorporate a colour scheme of black, white, gray and gold. Etienne Interiors infused this colour scheme with a pop of Kelly green to enliven the space with an otherwise mono tonal palette. The elephant theme was also updated by using graphic interpretations in black, white and gold. The overall feel of the room is very chic with the addition of the jet black campaign dresser and nightstand. The mid century inspired lighting with brass accents tie into the case goods pieces and provide a soft glow to the room for a sense of calm.

I was on a tight budget and most of the items where sourced second hand, handmade or relatively cheap. I was enlisted to design a nursery for first time parents. Our starting point was white and greys and a love for elephants. The room is small with high ceilings and we had to make every inch counts… sounds familier, I know. Material pallette for this nursery is so textural and swoonworthy. With a feature bubble chandelier anchoring the room and a mix of shagreen, velvet, aged and acrylic, we created a very modern feature nursery. I create this feature wall by installing this beautiful wallpaper. The high ceilings in the apartment really make the space look and feel larger than it is. The ceiling height called for a custom statement chandelier. And this beautiful crib with upholstered side panels and aged brass legs. The room is grounded by this plush performance rug in soft white. I love how different greys and whites and textures unite the space!! Here is another view… we knew we were designing for a boy and we owned it. Aeroplanes and cars and trains done in a subtle way that one doesn’t realize. This beautiful modern glider has a stunning chrome base and we love it. The foot stool has playful strips and wooden rings to carry it around. The art framed in its acrylic box speaks makes this wall!!

Which Essential Elements Should a Baby Room Have?

When browsing through pictures of nurseries on Houzz, you’ll notice a common theme: They usually all include similar pieces of furniture and decor. You can’t go past a cot, changing table and a dresser. Whatever you’re after, you’ll be sure to find something for your taste, even if you’re limited by a small space or need to make it work on a budget. Another aspect to remember is practicality. You want to make sure you have enough storage so you can have a clutter (and trip-hazard!) free space, and you want to have everything within easy reach when it comes to changing nappies so you don’t risk your baby rolling off the change table while you turn around reaching for the baby wipes. Think about practical furniture: closets without doors, open shelves and furniture and walls that are easy to clean should be your go-to’s.

Decorating and Choosing the Right Colour

Choosing colours is a big one. These days, you’re not limited to blue for a baby boy or pink for a baby girl - a lot of nurseries are actually held gender-neutral and you may be decorating without knowing the gender. Unisex colours are on the rise, as well as feature walls with inspirational artwork and themes that encourage exploration. The possibilities are endless - whether you go for a travel theme with clouds, a nature environment with mountains and trees, or animals like elephants or owls to tell your little one good night, you’ll be able to find wallpapers, decals and decorations to suit. Also consider a nice, soft rug for when your baby starts crawling.

A Cosy Room can Promote Better Sleep

Being able to create nighttime-like darkness, peace and quiet at anytime of day could be something you’ll be thankful for later if your baby doesn’t want to go to sleep when it’s bright and guests are around, so think about lighting and soundproofing. A pair of heavy curtains could do the trick, and if you add a cute nightlight you can evoke an even more peaceful mood. The temperature and humidity of the room can also be major factors when it comes to sleeptime - too hot, too cold, too humid or dry? Make sure you can easily regulate the room temperature and have warm blankets handy in winter. You may also want to invest in a dehumidifier or vaporiser - these may earn extra points for white noise, too!

Planning for the Future

Keep in mind that a baby will not be a baby room for long - they grow fast! Depending on how long you keep your baby with you, you may not even have a separate room and directly jump to sharing with their sibling. Keep in mind that you may be planning for a more grown-up kids room soon, and your baby doesn’t really care about the decor of the room as much as you do. Choose items you like and go for furniture that you’ll be able to move to different rooms later if you can.
