Linear Glass Wardrobe | Swiss Cottage Camden | Inspired Elements

This is a project of an urban open space flat located in Swiss Cottage part of Camden in London. The interior designer was trying to design a built-in wardrobe that will look spacious and provide a lot of reflection on light and keeping the openness of the room. Our Linear Glass Wardrobe was selected to furnish this bedroom. For functionality, we put in practical accessories like shoe racks, drawer organisers and glass shelves. We also used recessed LED lighting on this wardrobe with sensors. The glass shelves also have built in integrated LED lights to work with the doors. The colour for the internal fitted bedroom carcass was dark wood grain which matched very well with the door frame colour. We also used a grey tinted glass which would keep the internals obscure when the lights are off. Grey tinted mirror becomes transparent when internal LED lights are on is dark when the lights are off. This wardrobe also has an Island which works well for rooms that have space for this. The island has a matching tinted grey glass top with drawer organisers for jewelry under this top. This allows you to see your jewelry, ties, and watches when you are getting ready. This walk-in closet is barely 3.5ft wide and approx 5.5ft deep, such a narrow space and still need to leave space for the access panel on the bottom right wall. Challenging closet space to design but we love the challenge. Designed in White finish with adjustable shelving giving you the freedom to move them up or down to create your desired storage space. This tiny closet has over 70" of hanging space, it has two hook sets on the wall, a belt rack, four drawers and adjustable shoe shelves that will hold up to 40 pairs of shoes.

Builder: Boone Construction Photographer: M-Buck Studio This lakefront farmhouse skillfully fits four bedrooms and three and a half bathrooms in this carefully planned open plan. The symmetrical front façade sets the tone by contrasting the earthy textures of shake and stone with a collection of crisp white trim that run throughout the home. Wrapping around the rear of this cottage is an expansive covered porch designed for entertaining and enjoying shaded Summer breezes. A pair of sliding doors allow the interior entertaining spaces to open up on the covered porch for a seamless indoor to outdoor transition. The openness of this compact plan still manages to provide plenty of storage in the form of a separate butlers pantry off from the kitchen, and a lakeside mudroom. The living room is centrally located and connects the master quite to the home’s common spaces. The master suite is given spectacular vistas on three sides with direct access to the rear patio and features two separate closets and a private spa style bath to create a luxurious master suite. Upstairs, you will find three additional bedrooms, one of which a private bath. The other two bedrooms share a bath that thoughtfully provides privacy between the shower and vanity.

Brunswick Parlour transforms a Victorian cottage into a hard-working, personalised home for a family of four. Our clients loved the character of their Brunswick terrace home, but not its inefficient floor plan and poor year-round thermal control. They didn't need more space, they just needed their space to work harder. The front bedrooms remain largely untouched, retaining their Victorian features and only introducing new cabinetry. Meanwhile, the main bedroom’s previously pokey en suite and wardrobe have been expanded, adorned with custom cabinetry and illuminated via a generous skylight. At the rear of the house, we reimagined the floor plan to establish shared spaces suited to the family’s lifestyle. Flanked by the dining and living rooms, the kitchen has been reoriented into a more efficient layout and features custom cabinetry that uses every available inch. In the dining room, the Swiss Army Knife of utility cabinets unfolds to reveal a laundry, more custom cabinetry, and a craft station with a retractable desk. Beautiful materiality throughout infuses the home with warmth and personality, featuring Blackbutt timber flooring and cabinetry, and selective pops of green and pink tones. The house now works hard in a thermal sense too. Insulation and glazing were updated to best practice standard, and we’ve introduced several temperature control tools. Hydronic heating installed throughout the house is complemented by an evaporative cooling system and operable skylight. The result is a lush, tactile home that increases the effectiveness of every existing inch to enhance daily life for our clients, proving that good design doesn’t need to add space to add value.

As compact urban living becomes the norm, there has become a higher demand for smart storage solutions. As a result, there are more innovative storage ideas than ever. Aside from storage baskets and shelving units, you can now install custom-made built-in wardrobes, shape-shifting storage cubes, and even concealed units. You’ll find walk-in wardrobes boasting spinning shoe racks, lounge chairs and display cases with lighting; as well as more simpler storage solutions like room dividers that double as storage, pull-out baskets and floating shelves. If you decide to revamp your wardrobe or storage space, it’s important to consider whether built-ins are a suitable option. How many cabinets should built-in wardrobes have?

The size of your built-in wardrobe should be largely dependant on how much hanging space you actually need. Just because you have a blank wall, for example, doesn’t mean it has to be filled with a large wardrobe. Position shelves above hanging space to be more ergonomic, and only add drawers if you plan on having an open wardrobe as this will add to the overall price. A dresser or chest of drawers is a better option for fold-away clothes, so long as you have the room. Shoe collections can also take up ample room in a built-in wardrobe, so consider a purpose-built cabinet or shoe racks instead.

How do I organise my wardrobe or cupboard?

With so many shoes, ties, clothes and bags to stash, wardrobe organisation is key. Use hooks, storage baskets, drawer partitions or dividers to keep your belongings in order. Storage baskets are great for storing things like belts and scarves, while shelf dividers can keep knits, jeans and shirts neatly packed away. Take pride in your shoe collection? Create a shoe storage display using a few strips of moulding mounted to the wall so you can hook your shoes. Similarly, an open robe can make your clothing a feature.

What extras can I include in my wardrobe design?

If you want a luxurious wardrobe, consider including a small sitting area with a window seat, storage ottoman, or lounge chair. You could also add a makeup vanity, complete with a jewellery box and makeup drawer. A viewing area with full-length mirrors will also make getting ready a breeze. Wardrobe lighting will bring the space to life – use display lighting to showcase your clothing, task lighting for functionality and mood lighting to set the scene.
