Photos taken by J.W. Smith. This kitchen was designed to bridge the gap between contemporary and traditional styles since the architectural style of the house is traditional, but the owner's taste leans towards contemporary. The owner wanted the cabinets to be different from the often seen white painted cabinets, but also wanted the kitchen to appear light and breezy. The purpose of the glass tile work is to create a textural change from soft to chrisp and clean. The white dish pantry seen near the kitchen table was an existing piece. On either side, closed door drywall niches were built out to flank the dish pantry.

Saving the original stained glass picture window from 1916, we created a focal point with a custom designed arch alcove with dentil molding. Leaded glass upper cabinets add ambiance and sparkle to the compact kitchen.

This dark green kitchen shows how Tom Howley can create a kitchen where everything has a place and can be easily accessed. Integrated appliances and bespoke storage minimise clutter and glass fronted cabinetry with subtle lighting provides plenty of opportunity to display both attractive essentials and pieces of art.

A retro 1950’s kitchen featuring green custom colored cabinets with glass door mounts, under cabinet lighting, pull-out drawers, and Lazy Susans. To contrast with the green we added in red window treatments, a toaster oven, and other small red polka dot accessories. A few final touches we made include a retro fridge, retro oven, retro dishwasher, an apron sink, light quartz countertops, a white subway tile backsplash, and retro tile flooring. Home located in Humboldt Park Chicago. Designed by Chi Renovation & Design who also serve the Chicagoland area and it's surrounding suburbs, with an emphasis on the North Side and North Shore. You'll find their work from the Loop through Lincoln Park, Skokie, Evanston, Wilmette, and all of the way up to Lake Forest.
