Needless to say, this kitchen is a cook’s dream. With an oversized peninsula, there is plenty of space to create tasteful confections. They added another element of interest to their design by mitering the edges of their countertop, creating the look of a thicker slab and adding a nice focal point to the space. Pulling the whole look together, they complemented the sea pearl quartzite countertop beautifully with the use of grey subway tile. Cabinets were custom built by Chandler in a shaker style with narrow 2" recessed panel and painted in a sherwin williams paint called silverplate in eggshell finish. The hardware was ordered through topknobs in the pennington style, various sizes used.

The informal dining area integrated at this end of the island provides a safe space for the children to sit whilst Carla and Ben are cooking. Bearing in mind the need for this room to work for a family, a designated safe area for the children was necessary. The pendant lights above the table echo the Merlot glass splashback, bringing different elements of the room together.

Conceived as a remodel and addition, the final design iteration for this home is uniquely multifaceted. Structural considerations required a more extensive tear down, however the clients wanted the entire remodel design kept intact, essentially recreating much of the existing home. The overall floor plan design centers on maximizing the views, while extensive glazing is carefully placed to frame and enhance them. The residence opens up to the outdoor living and views from multiple spaces and visually connects interior spaces in the inner court. The client, who also specializes in residential interiors, had a vision of ‘transitional’ style for the home, marrying clean and contemporary elements with touches of antique charm. Energy efficient materials along with reclaimed architectural wood details were seamlessly integrated, adding sustainable design elements to this transitional design. The architect and client collaboration strived to achieve modern, clean spaces playfully interjecting rustic elements throughout the home. This young family has a great house on a great street in a great location. The kitchen was a large space with ample room and great view to the backyard. The dated cabinets and large peninsula layout however were not working for them, so they came in looking for a fresh start. Goals for the project included adding a large island with seating for four and a bright, open and cheerful space for daily meals and entertaining. Our clients also wanted to keep the existing breakfast table, but the original space did not allow for an island and breakfast table. Our solution was to create banquette seating which gave us the extra inches necessary to accomplish both. The larger awning window over the kitchen sink allows for ample light in the new space. The wall between the kitchen and family room was partially removed to provide the more open feeling our clients desired. The work triangle is centered on the island which serves as a big open prep space conveniently located across from the large pro style range. The island also houses the microwave and a 2nd oven for larger gatherings. A new counter depth fridge and beverage center provide options for refrigeration. A simple pallet of white cabinetry, Carrera marble countertops and polished nickel fixtures will be a timeless look and provide a lovely backdrop for entertaining and spending time with family. This whole house remodel included a kitchen & 3 baths for a young growing family. They were going for a transitional style with a coastal twist. The kitchen was designed using Fieldstone Cabinetry with a light-colored perimeter and a darker island for contrast. This custom 17' pecky cypress kitchen island contrasts against the painted maple inset cabinets behind it. The beautiful cypress beams in the ceiling tie in the warm wood island into this transitional kitchen. This home was built by Martin & Malkemus and designed by Piazza Architecture with custom items made by Northshore Millwork. It's located in the beautiful TerraBella subdivision of Covington, LA.

This home in the Portland hills was stuck in the 70's with cedar paneling and almond laminate cabinets with oak details. (See Before photos) The space had wonderful potential with a high vaulted ceiling that was covered by a low ceiling in the kitchen and dining room. Walls closed in the kitchen. The remodel began with removal of the ceiling and the wall between the kitchen and the dining room. Hardwood flooring was extended into the kitchen. Shaker cabinets with contemporary hardware, modern pendants and clean-lined backsplash tile make this kitchen fit the transitional style the owners wanted. Now, the light and backdrop of beautiful trees are enjoyed from every room.

Continuing the lines of the existing wrap-around porch, we were able to create a family kitchen with a raised ceiling culminating in a large skylight.
