A colonial waterfront home in Mamaroneck was renovated to add this expansive, light filled kitchen with a rustic modern vibe. Solid maple cabinetry with inset slab doors color matched to Benjamin Moore Super White. Brick backsplash with white cabinetry adds warmth to the cool tones in this kitchen. A rift sawn oak island features plank style doors and drawers is a rustic contrast to the clean white perimeter cabinetry. Perimeter countertops in Caesarstone are complimented by the White Macauba island top with mitered edge. Concrete look porcelain tiles are low maintenance and sleek. In this kitchen we installed Waypoint Livingspaces cabinets on the perimeter is 702F doorstyle in Painted Hazelnut Glaze and on the island is 650F doorstyle in Cherry Java accented with Amerock Revitilize pulls and Chandler knobs in oil rubbed bronze. On the countertops is Giallo Ornamental 3cm Granite with a 4” backsplash below the microwave area. On the wall behind the range is 2 x 8 Brickwork tile in Terrace color. Kichler Avery 3 pendant lights were installed over the island. A Blanco single bowl sink in Biscotti color with a Moen Waterhill single handle faucet with the side spray was installed. Three 18” time weathered Faux wood beams in walnut color were installed on the ceiling to accent the kitchen.

The “Industrial shaker” – notice the bare red Cheshire brick feature wall – A classic shaker style kitchen in modern deep grey with grey slate floor, and hardwearing white quartz worktops around the cooking area and a rich luxurious solid oak island worktop – see how the furniture perfectly sits underneath the oak beam to the ceiling – a classic and instant hallmark of bespoke manufacture and installation - notice the modern way of cooking with cutting-edge multi-function ovens set at eye level for ease of use, the wide seamless induction hob set in a break-fronted worktop run for deeper worksurface where its needed most, and “WOW” glass extractor hood, framed by classic glazed wall units for glasses and cups/plates. Note the bifold dresser hiding the small appliances (Mixer/blender/toaster) merging into the tall larder and huge side by side fridge and freezer. Again the sink is on the island but inset into the beautiful solid oak oiled worktop. With contemporary chrome rinse monobloc tap. The island feature side has a wine cooler, and a breakfast bar conveniently located to grab that next glass of wine!. Simple chrome cup and ball handles finish off that industrial modern look. This open, brick and beam loft space featured earthy and textured surfaces – in a very mid-90s setting. We embraced the brick and incorporated a mixture of warm materials including oil-rubbed bronze, ebonized walnut and wide-board, bleached-oak flooring. This kitchen was updated with Medallion maple wood species, Middleton door with a flat panel in Sandpiper Classic paint on the perimeter of the kitchen. The bar area and shelving unit and kitchen island features frameless cabinets by Design Craft in maple wood species, Potter Mills door style with flat center panel French Roast stain with Sable glaze and highlight. The countertops are Eternia Castlebar quartz with a roundover edge and a Blanco white fireclay apron front sink. Moen single handle faucet in matte black. A 4-light candelabra pendant light by Park Harbor hangs over the island and a Seagull 5-light Ravenwood chandelier hangs over the dining room table.

1. What Makes a Good Transitional Kitchen Design, and Why is it Important?

For starters, you want to find a balance between aesthetics and function. You may have heard of the ‘kitchen work triangle’, which refers to the space between your fridge, sink and stove. You want everything within easy reach when you’re working in the kitchen and look beautiful at the same time. It’s a good idea to take note of both when browsing our photo gallery.

2. Consider Your Space to Determine Your Kitchen Layout

Firstly, consider the space you have, and the limitations that come with it. Do you have a small kitchen and need to maximise your workspace and storage? Can you allow yourself some more space and a big island with seating? Are you designing your kitchen from scratch or renovating an existing design? Which appliances do you already own and what are their measurements? Are there windows you need to take into consideration when planning cabinets? How do kitchen, living and dining areas connect? Depending on your space and needs, you want to use a shape that suits you. U, G, or L-shaped kitchen, with or without island or peninsula? Know your dimensions, plan cabinetry carefully and consider the placement of your appliances. You don’t want to end up with a finished design, only for your significant other to question where the fridge is supposed to go. Consider from the start where your fridge, oven, microwave and sink goes to save yourself from starting again from scratch - remember the kitchen work triangle! You also want to plan the layout of your cabinets. Maybe you’re planning for a pantry and can do with less storage space in your kitchen, so that your design can be one without upper or lower cabinets for a different look. A corner cabinet can be a smart storage solution if you want to keep the look clean and simple.

3. Decide on a Kitchen Style, But Don’t Forget Practicality

You want the style of your kitchen to reflect your personality and taste.
