Harveys on Beverly
For most, rattan furniture isn’t chosen—it chooses you. These pieces, in all their kitschy, sun-soaked glory, often come to us as hand-me-downs from grandparents and aunts or, if we're fortunate, hold court in an old family summer house. For Los Angeles furniture dealer Harvey Schwartz, however, a connection to rattan came from outer space.
Interior designers are calling too. When designing a home for Poppy and Cara Delevingne, Beverly Hills architect Nicolò Bini wanted to create a tropical feel by blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor, a role rattan was born to play. “Poppy wanted something very Hollywood Regency, a California dream home—light, airy, fun,” says Bini. “So I thought that rattan would be the perfect match for her.” Bini, a longtime fan and friend of Schwartz’s, had never before taken a client to Harvey’s warehouse. But when he brought Poppy at the end of a long day of touring furniture shops, “she just absolutely flipped out,” he says. The pieces she ended up buying not only found their way into a central part of the home, but onto the cover of AD last September.

Ricardo is passionate about sustainable forestry. He specialises in renewable energy using natural systems in nature and we have created an environment that reflects this within his home. In this project we chose paintings that express fluidity and fengshui to embrace the wind and water elements of nature. To purify the air, we created a moss wall and the lush grass carpet generates the comforting sense of forest bathing. The splashback evokes the peaceful experience of walking in the forest amongst a sea of bluebells generating a sense of spring and new beginings. The bathroom is inspired by the vast, lush Amazon Rainforest and it's natural biodiversity. With the artwork here, we created an alluring tranquil space, incorporating natural raw materials and spiritual artefacts, brining a sense of calm and rejuvenation.

The Florida room bar seen from the kitchen. Divided from the house via ceiling to floor sliding glass doors, the entire room opens to the exterior via accordion style glass doors so it can be used as either an indoor or outdoor space.
