Situated on the west slope of Mt. Baker Ridge, this remodel takes a contemporary view on traditional elements to maximize space, lightness and spectacular views of downtown Seattle and Puget Sound. We were approached by Vertical Construction Group to help a client bring their 1906 craftsman into the 21st century. The original home had many redeeming qualities that were unfortunately compromised by an early 2000’s renovation. This left the new homeowners with awkward and unusable spaces. After studying numerous space plans and roofline modifications, we were able to create quality interior and exterior spaces that reflected our client’s needs and design sensibilities. The resulting master suite, living space, roof deck(s) and re-invented kitchen are great examples of a successful collaboration between homeowner and design and build teams.

Glamourous but fun, bold and unexpected. Black & white family bathroom. Wall mounted Perrin & Rowe bathroom fittings from England feature over the bath and vanity. The floor tiles add the fun element, while still keeping in a traditional black and white format, but with a contemporary pattern. The photo doesn't even show how magnificent this slab of granite countertop is. We were able to install it in one piece without cutting it. The countertop has very fine slight sparkle to it. We wanted to create a more zen like shower but still very eye catching.

This shower room is for the older son of the household, and we went for a contemporary, 'New York' feel. The shower room has 2 large windows and is flooded with light. Photo by Simon Eldon

A black tile skirt around the grey, black and white patterned floor. Above this, a subway gloss white beveled edge tile dressed all the walls from floor to ceiling. A black curved border tile drew the eye down from the ceiling and created a bold horizontal line around the room. Though the contrast could have been potentially very harsh, the soft contour to the tile, and the beveled edges, and the patterns, were composed in a way that was balanced and harmonious. The combination was delicate and feminine, and bright and beautiful.
