Golden Roots Landscape

This project involved the complete remake of an aging Eichler and transforming the surrounding landscape into an inviting outdoor living space. Even the driveway was given a modern update with permeable concrete pavers filled with crushed granite. The front lawn and brick retaining wall were replaced with drought tolerant grasses, perennials, succulents and concrete stepping stones. The expansive back yard includes an all weather dining area, a pergola covered grill island and bar, concrete seat wall and water feature, lounge seating complete with fire pit, raised vegetable beds and a private spa. If you meander around to the shady side of the house you'll find a peaceful Japanese meditation garden.

Brighton backyard oasis. Our client had a beautiful home in the woods with an expansive deck and much-unused space underneath. They were looking to create an outdoor living room. With an extensive design, we tripled their outdoor-entertaining area. We added a large dining area, a lounge area under the deck, and a fire pit with a seating wall to keep things cozy on crisp fall nights. We tied the new space to the deck and walkout basement using large format pavers with a contrasting border. A pachysandra border kept the transition from hardscape to softscape neat and clean.

This is a final project installation picture of the landscape renovation project. This picture shows the detail of the stamped concrete driveway with paver accent border. This project entailed demo of the koi pond, driveway, and walkways. The project scope included replacing removed concrete with pavers for a new patio area. We also incorporated a paver walkway that tied into the patio. The koi pond was completely redone with weathered limestone, and finally the driveway asphalt was replaced with stamped concrete with paver accent bordering the outside edges

Often considered unusable, wasted space, the hillsides of many southern California homes are considered, at best, as an afterthought in landscape planning. With creativity and craftsmanship, however, we can transform any hill into something usable, and with foliage we can make it a visual destination in itself. This massive back slope was re-formed from a steep, overgrown hill into a series of terraced gardens. Access upslope is through a grand yet informal set of outdoor wooden steps bound on each side by a pair of three symmetrical cascades of semi-circular, flowing retaining walls. The homeowner requested that the foliage be drought-tolerant, and that is exactly what we delivered. From wasted space to best of show.
