I always love when a client says “do what you think”. I had the best time designing this beach house for another adorable family. When I learned the homes history and the families Greek heritage, my brain entered Mykonos mode. They agreed and let me run with it. Both floors of the home went thru some major overhaul (pictures to come). Luckily I had a dream of a contractor and some magical tradespeople to work with. When designing this kitchen update and addition, Phase One had to keep function and style top of mind, all the time. The homeowners are masters in the kitchen and also wanted to highlight the great outdoors and the future location of their pool, so adding window banks were paramount, especially over the sink counter. The bathrooms renovations were hardly a second thought to the kitchen; one focuses on a large shower while the other, a stately bathtub, complete with frosted glass windows Stylistic details such as a bright red sliding door, and a hand selected fireplace mantle from the mountains were key indicators of the homeowners trend guidelines. Storage was also very important to the client and the home is now outfitted with 12.

In this kitchen, on the perimeter is Waypoint Living Spaces cabinets in Door Style 66R in Painted Vanilla finish for the perimeter area with a blind corner half moon swing out unit with wood trays accented with Top Knobs Reeded pulls and knobs in brushed stain nickel finish. For the coffee bar Waypoint Living Spaces cabinets door style 66R in Cherry Slate with Top Knobs Umbrio pulls and knobs. The countertop is Cambria Halewood polished quartz. The backsplash on the perimeter is Craft II Fawn Picket tile installed in a stacked pattern with a horizontal orientation. The tile on the coffee bar is Virtue 18x18 tile in Ivory. Two Craftmade Thatcher mini pendant lights over the peninsula. A Blanco Diamond Silgranite undermount sink in Truffle and Moen Glenshire single handle high arc pull down faucet with soap dispenser in Mediterranean Bronze finish. The flooring is Mannington Adura Flex Meridian Stucco 12x24 vinyl tile.

By raising the dropped ceilings, and removing a support post in the center of the entry, we transformed an uninspiring U-shaped kitchen with a peninsula into a bright and functional kitchen. The new island and high-end appliances featuring the Wolf range, 42" Subzero refrigerator, and the Fisher Paykel dishwasher drawers make cooking and entertaining a breeze. The island is a main hub in the kitchen, housing the Wolf microwave drawer, the Scottsman ice maker and the beautiful hammered stainless steel prep sink adjacent from the refrigerator for quick rinsing. Special attention was given to the custom cabinetry to give this kitchen a timeless look. Stacked glass cabinets add depth and extra storage, corbels were added at the island with a bead board detail to make the island a statement piece, and all the appliances were paneled to further emphasis a classic kitchen.

We love this inset handle Shaker kitchen in Essex. It has plenty of worktop and prep space and a large amount of storage. The range, fridge freezer and sink are at a close proximity to each other, and there is even more storage on the opposite side of the room (not seen here). The cabinets are painted in Ho Ho Green by Little Greene, the handles are our bespoke inset handle in burnished brass and the worktops are 30mm, polished SG Carrara quartz. The client opted for Amtico flooring which looks beautiful with the white painted walls and green cupboards.

For starters, you want to find a balance between aesthetics and function. You may have heard of the ‘kitchen work triangle’, which refers to the space between your fridge, sink and stove. You want everything within easy reach when you’re working in the kitchen and look beautiful at the same time. It’s a good idea to take note of both when browsing our photo gallery.

2. Consider Your Space to Determine Your Kitchen Layout

Firstly, consider the space you have, and the limitations that come with it. Do you have a small kitchen and need to maximise your workspace and storage? Know your dimensions, plan cabinetry carefully and consider the placement of your appliances. You don’t want to end up with a finished design, only for your significant other to question where the fridge is supposed to go. Consider from the start where your fridge, oven, microwave and sink goes to save yourself from starting again from scratch - remember the kitchen work triangle! You also want to plan the layout of your cabinets.
