Wonderful walnut and white, painted kitchen

A place to connect with the family while cooking and a space to entertain were key considerations for luxury, bespoke, British furniture maker Woodstock Furniture when we were asked to transform the kitchen of this period property. The clients, a couple with two children, had lived in the house for a number of years and wanted to revamp the kitchen to create a more usable space for the whole family. By moving a back wall, the kitchen designers were able to create a larger, open-plan space with a stunning wall of glass doors leading out to the patio to bring the outside in. A curved central island is the perfect way for the family to enjoy the social aspect of cooking while a large dining table is ideal for entertaining. The hob has been placed on the island to maximise space and a flush ceiling extractor ensures a sleek, streamlined finish. The beautiful units, a mixture of walnut and a white painted finish, create a sense of light and space with a composite quartz worktop completing the look. An existing dining table has been stained to complement the walnut units and an industrial-style Reed Harris concrete, porcelain-effect tile adorn the floor. Clever storage includes a larder cupboard, deep drawers in the central island to store bottles and jars, a spice drawer near the hob and two large bins hidden behind units under the work surface near the sink. A TV display cabinet has been produced in a similar style and materials to complement the kitchen and create a cohesive look to this room. We wanted to give the family a social space to meet, cook and eat as well as leaving plenty of room for entertaining. The central island and larder cupboard created plenty of storage options so all the clutter of the kitchen could be hidden away leaving a minimal, contemporary space for the whole family to enjoy.
