Clean pathway lines give a native garden permission to go a little bit wild and still look intentional.

The generous side yard on this corner lot was designed as another sitting and entertaining area off the side entry. The paving is decomposed granite and the patio blends into the new decomposed granite driveway and gate to the back yard

Our client hired us to renovate their yard that had an old patio that was installed incorrectly years previous. They wanted as maintenance free as possible but with a definite budget in mind. Lastly, they wanted to begin to grow a lot of vegetables at home and therefore wanted some raised cedar planters to suit their needs. We utilized rundle for the bedding areas and concrete edges for ease of maintaining the property in their retirement years. Great project!!
Landscape Logic
Natural boulders set in the landscape within the planting areas. In the background are raised wood box vegetable gardens filled with herbs and vegetables. These boxes are made of redwood and filled with rich composted soil ready to feed the plants.

This garden had an historic collection of native California and Mexican fan palms, clustered around a water-needy lawn. We removed the lawn, added a new layer of drought tolerant smaller palms, and an underplanting of mediterranean type shrubs and perennials.

A path made from decomposed granite with Juniper timber steps leads from the terraced vegetable garden, through the side courtyard, and to the backyard.
Urban Oasis Landscape Design
A sumptuous palette of yellow and purple plants graces the slope. It’s a lush and biodiverse selection of California natives and the spirited expanse of flowers and foliage grounds the new house into the surrounding hillside. Aromatic native Sages, Monkey Flower and Yarrow play off the rich green of Coyote Bush while native Blonde Ambition Blue Grama grass brushes the magenta pom-pom flowers of Pink Melaleuca tree. The tight purple flowers of California Lilac complement the open faced California Sunflower. A Coast Live Oak was planted to stand sentry over all. Plants are all hardy and highly drought tolerant. The Kurapia groundcover lawn is verdant but, once established, hardly needs watering. The constant buzzing and bird warbling create a soothing natural soundtrack.
