Ronnette Riley Architect
Architects in Brooklyn, NY
“It was a pleasure working with Ronnette Riley and her team. I had a budget in mind when first imagining the project. Ronnette was completely straightforward with me from the beginning about where my original budget and reality would soon diverge; as a result there were no financial surprises. She and here colleagues guided me through the design process, addressing the elements that I wanted and suggesting additional ways in which to achieve the overall atmosphere I had in mind. The space I purchased was dated and out of synch with the building’s iconic mid-century design by its internationally renowned architects; RRA guided its return to its architectural roots. With reconfigurations of door placements, a redesign of the kitchen and bathroom, and the creation of a wrap-around cantilevered bookcase, the space looks better and is far more functional. I also appreciated the fact that RRA handles all aspects of design, from its structure to the interior finishes. RRA helped me select through a wide variety of vendors mid-century furniture, window treatments, and rugs – assembled in a way that tied all of the spaces together. Having one firm handle the entire process was not only much easier to manage (relieving me of a lot of potential hassle), but it also resulted in a cohesive design. I am thrilled with my new home and I would recommend RRA to anyone.”
Courtney Lowry Architect
Architects in Brooklyn, NY
“Courtney was very courteous, knowledgeable, and patient. She continues to answer all of my questions and has walked me through the design and build process step by step.”
Ben Herzog
Architects in Brooklyn, NY
“I found Ben Herzog Architects while browsing Houzz.com. I would add photos to my ideabook and discovered that most of the projects were done by Ben! Ben has been great helping us decide how we can maximize space in our 1917 Brooklyn row house. We have decided on a more open floor plan, new wood plank floors, high hat lighting, a bit larger kitchen space with higher ceiling and an island, a shallow broom closet and banquette seating in our dining room. The demolition began 9/5/12 and as a result we have discovered that we can open up the doorway openings even more than planned! Ben is happily revising his drawings and I can't wait to see the changes! Ben and his team are easy to work with and very helpful with design and product ideas while keeping our budget in mind!”
GC Architecture LLC
Architects in Brooklyn, NY
“Very thorough review of the original site. Very efficiently designed an addition within the confines of the site...very easy to work with.”
Richard Massa Architect
Architects in Brooklyn, NY
“Richard turned out 150-year-old Brooklyn townhouse into the perfect home. In helping us realize our dream house, he came up with wonderfully creative ideas to solve every issue that arose--and he was a pleasure to work with. We could not be happier.”
LEAP Architecture
Architects in Brooklyn, NY
“LEAP designed our modern and green home addition. They handled much of the creative work on the project, as well as detailed renderings, bid consultations, and construction supervision. LEAP's work was very creative and responded directly to our needs. They found ways to get energy efficiency and modern design details into a "buildable" and cost-conscious project. They are humble, hardworking, and consistent. I would choose to work with LEAP Architecture again without hesitation.”
XYZ PLANS
Architects in Brooklyn, NY
“I hired XYZ Plans to help me deal with my brownstone renovation in Park Slope. The scope of work included: installation of AC system, terrace door replacement, stoop metal railing repair and new stucco finish, garden pavilion upgrade with new roof waterproofing, new heating system, and new concrete floor. Since it was not a big project we minimized the drawings to minimum details and prepared an elaborate written description instead. I had a fixed budget that would not be able to include some of work. However, Michal Grabowski, the head of XYZ Plans, was able to find a local builder who did it all for the price. I really appreciated the way the construction process was handled, with customized contract, weekly meeting and meeting minutes, work quality verification and progress checking. It was always great to know that I can call anytime and have a reasonable person arbitrating between me and the contractor. Renovation is not a nice process when you cannot vacant the house but without XYZ Plans professional help it would have been much, much worse. I sure know whom to call when I will be renovating again.
Marion”
Little Boxes Studio Architect
Architects in Brooklyn, NY
“My home is one of the exhibits listed here. This architect was easy to work with and gave appropriate and timely advice when needed.
She is currently working another project for me, a renovation of a Frank Lloyd Wright's apprentice work in the Berkshires.”
John Patrick Cunningham / Architect
Architects in Brooklyn, NY
“My husband and I are absolutely thrilled with the work performed by John Patrick. He went above and beyond to ensure that our vision and goals were captured in the final design. We know that when we finally move into our renovated home, we will enjoy it that much more because we worked with John.
We bought a1930s colonial - our first home - and while we knew that something needed to be done to it, we couldn't figure out exactly what. John Patrick is a highly trained and skilled designer, who helped us realize ideas about our space that we didn't see before. Not only did he come up with beautiful and practical solutions to the problems we saw in the home, he willingly worked within the existing constraints of the space, i.e., the location of plumbing, load-bearing walls, etc.
We held frequent check-points during our design phase. During each one, John Patrick was thoughtful and professional. We never felt embarrassed or uncomfortable bringing our ideas to the table. He was always very tactful in explaining which ideas made sense and which could be reconsidered in order to maximize space and functionality. We wanted to work with an architect who would share his professional expertise, and not simply sketch whatever we asked him to. John is definitely that architect. And yet, when there were personal elements that my husband and I were unwilling to bend on - no matter how impractical - John found a way to make them work.
After each check-point, John created great drawings that helped us visualize the space. These were invaluable for two business professionals trying to make design choices with no design experience. Once our designs were final, John even produced renderings that helped us select fixtures and furniture to fit in our space. These renderings alone have received glowing compliments from all our friends and colleagues.
The renderings were also very impressive to our contractor, who is overseeing the construction of our home, as were the construction documents that John produced. The construction documents helped us during the bid phase, when we were trying to select a contractor, and have served as the “source of truth” during the construction phase.
We absolutely recommend working with John Patrick Cunningham. You will be happy you did!”
Brinkman Architecture, LLC
Architects in Brooklyn, NY
“We have worked with Karen at Brinkman for countless projects; baths, kitchens, whole-house remodels; light commercial spaces, and additions. She is a true professional and has some great ideas for the spaces we are hired to remodel. She is willing to stop by on a moment's notice for questions and advice, which is important for the remodeling that we are involved in. We plan to continue working with her for all of our remodels in the future.”
