“We recently completed our dream/retirement home in Central Oregon. While it was not our first new house, it was our first custom home. We were basically at the end of the design process when I realized what we had was simply not matching what we had envisioned. I had communicated poorly. We hired Rick to help us tweak the project and he did that and more. Essentially, he delivered the look and feel we sought, beginning with a beautiful pencil drawing of what he thought we wanted - it is framed and hangs in our house today. He listened - and was the consummate professional. We couldn't be more thrilled with what his work produced.”

“My husband and I worked with HD Architecture to design and help build our retirement dream home. The project came with some challenges, in that we had a long list of must haves, a limited budget, and we, the homeowners, were 2,200 miles away from the home site for most of the project. I knew after meeting Gary Holbrook for the first time that he was the right architect for our job. In fact, we didn't interview anyone else, because his skill set and demeanor were such a good fit for our project. The residential design process is a great exercise and really makes you think about how you live and what you need and want. And what you think you need but don't. It is imperative that you trust and respect your architect. We were so fortunate to have that relationship with HD Architecture. Gary is a great listener and brings experience and expertise to the project that I know will serve us well as long as we live in our new home. HDA is a full-service firm, meaning Gary will work with you from the start of the design until building completion. That was imperative for us since we were building long-distance. It became evident shortly after construction began that Gary is also very skilled in the field and highly knowledgeable about construction. He also worked well with our builder, helping solve problem issues, while respecting our budget and looking out for our interests. Our new home has been a long-time dream, and, quite simply, we couldn't have realized it without him. I highly recommend the services of HD Architecture, Bend, Oregon.”

“What a delight to work with Chris Mayes and his staff. They brought to life my wife's and my vision for our new custom home. Because we wanted certain very high end details, products and appliances in some key areas they were able to offer in other areas suggestions for major savings that helped balance out our budget, and yet harmoniously maintained the design ethos. Also, when we got stuck in our home design in a couple of key entry areas (my wife is a fashion designer and I am a creative type, so were immersed in EVERY detail), Mayes Architecture came up with some very cool alternatives that maintained the style we were passionate about (think Frank Lloyd Wright in overall design). Ceiling treatments were one area we were especially grateful to have Chris's expertise. Also, his "getting it" on our eclectic but contemporary imagining process made for some interesting learning curves for both of us. Professional, knowledgeable, and fun, they make the entire design process a joy. Highly recommended! Update: 1/10/13; Chris dropped everything to get our plans slightly revised in order that we could apply for permits by a deadline. Truly, the "go-to" guy!”

“Tom was hired to design our home, develop construction documents and construction administration. Tom worked with us consistently throughout the whole process. He was always available for consultations on very short notice. He sited the house perfectly on the property so we have fabulous views out almost every window. He also quickly found solutions for a few small problems encountered during the construction phase. Overall, he was great to work with, both personable and professional. “Karen did an excellent job in designing our timber frame home. She spent the time to understand our needs and life-style to best create a design we would enjoy for many years.
